Republicans demand retraction of the facts on Iraq cost

US Republicans demand retraction of Iraq report

Wed Nov 14, 3:00 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Republican lawmakers on Wednesday demanded the retraction of a Democratic party report which warned that the costs of the Iraq and Afghan wars could reach 3.5 trillion dollars.

They warned the survey by Democratic staffers on Congress's Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was riddled with errors and should not be allowed to stand.

"In the rush to score political points, apparently no one bothered to fact check the report," said Senator Sam Brownback and Representative Jim Saxton, top Republicans on the committee, in a statement.

"When erroneous information is injected into the public domain, those responsible are obligated to publicly withdraw this information.

Oh yeah...
they forgot to add in the projected cost
of an all-out war with Iran.

8. And darn the luck
There just wasn't enough room in their whiny ass titty baby rant to actually, you know, identify any of those "errors" that the report is allegedly "riddled" with.

But it would be fine with me to see them try to identify those errors, and let's have a nice, long public discussion of just exactly how expensive this reckless blunder of an invasion has been and will be. I'm guessing that this will be a one-day whine and then quickly dropped, now that they got their A section coverage in the Post. The expense of this war won't take a whole lot of scrutiny, and even a lizard-brain like Brownback has to know that it's ultimately a loser for the GOP.

:wtf:

Where the hell were they when the Fecal Fuhrer, Darth Dick, and Colon Bowel were spreading the outright lies that led to the death of hundreds of thousands of innocents??

The fucking chutzpah of these sociopaths is astonishing - where the hell are the crowds with tar, feathers, and rails??

14. When are the Repugs going to make their retraction?
Back in 2002, the WH claimed this war was only going to cost $100-200 billion, as opposed to their equally questionable extrapolations on the cost of continued containment -- $380 billion. Steven J. Davis, Kevin M. Murphy and Robert H. Topel of the U of Chicago infamously wrote of containment costs back in 2003, "This dwarfs any reasonable estimate of U.S. war costs."

Oops.

And most egregiously, none of them figured in the cost to the Iraqis which in 5 years has surpassed the toll of 24 years under Saddam's rule.

Fuck a retraction. The Neocons and those who enabled them should be tried for treason.

19. Uuuuuh
Costs of wars put at $1.6 trillion so far

The above article also sez:

Future economic costs would be even greater. The report estimated that both wars would cost $3.5 trillion between 2003 and 2017. Under that scenario, it would cost a family of four $46,400, the report said.
