"I Have Not Made a Charmin Statement" - Mario Cuomo, 1992 (Or, Al Gore, 2007?)
Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 09:36 PM by CorpGovActivist
Eventually, the Hamlet on the Hudson opened the way for Bill Clinton, after much hemming and hawing.

By the time he made his Sherman statement, it read more like a Charmin statement.

Hate to say it, but the "above the fray" image Al Gore has cultivated is beginning to wear thin, much as Cuomo's did. The former Veep should make his intentions clear.

1. I figure some folks are holding back donations and support...
...from running candidates so as not to "waste" money in case Gore jumps in. Many people express a choice of candidate on the proviso that "if Gore does not run".

Peek-a-boo gets tiring.

3. "Lockbox" is used as a RW slur against Gore.
The Social Security lockbox was a great, progressive idea to protect the SS funds for the people from the vicious privateers. The idea was a huge threat against the greedy bastards who were and are still trying to steal the retirement security of our nation's elderly of today and the future. Talk about the lockbox as policy, but do not use it as a derisive joke the way a money-grabbin', right-stealin', child-rapin', poison-sellin', lie-peddlin' mass-murderin' winger would.

(I'm not accusing you of all of those winger activities, I just feel I shouold occasionally point out what wingers get caught doing an a regular basis)

4. He Pokes Fun of Himself over Some of These Stock Phrases...
... he's actually quite funny.

He also does a good riff on himself over inventing the Internet.

: )

6. Huge Fan of Gore...
... first saw him give his environmental / emissions speech in January 1990, when he was honorary co-chair of the United States Senate Youth Program, and I was one of two delegates from my state.

He literally climbed up on a chair on a rickety hotel riser (giving his bodyguard a fit, but he waved him away) to demonstrate humankind's effect on emissions since the Industrial Revolution.

His current coyness reminds me of him climbing up on that wobbly, rickety riser. Those who care about him (like that bodyguard) see the potential for a really nasty crash.
