After just 24 seconds,Police taser confused immigrant at Vancouver airport.
I just watched the sickening video on CBC news. Senseless senseless death. They never tried to calm him down, just zap him down and kneel on his neck. This should make it to you tube very quickly.

1. What a horrible abuse of power. Those cops should be stripped of their badges
and stand trial for manslaughter, if not murder.

2. DEATH you say? HOLY SHIT. In peacenik CANADA?
Good grief, that PM is apparently the Bush-Asshole of the North.

VANCOUVER - Police shocked a Polish immigrant with a Taser just seconds after approaching him at Vancouver International Airport last month, a video released Wednesday shows.

Moments later, three or four officers pinned Robert Dziekanski to the ground as he screamed and moaned in pain. One officer placed his knees against Dziekanski's back and neck until the 40-year-old went limp.

Paul Pritchard, a Victoria man who recorded Dziekanski's death, made arrangements to have the footage released to the public in Vancouver Wednesday....He said he had only seen the video once before, when he viewed it on his camera at the airport with a police officer.

Pritchard was at the airport because he was returning from China.

At the request of police, he gave them the video on the understanding they would return it immediately. When they then refused to give it back, he launched court action. Police returned it last week.

3. tasers need to be never used again
they are an easy, and deadly tool, for "law enforcement officers".

so sad.

4. It wasn't the taser, it was holding him down that probably killed him.
I'm still at a loss at what law enforcement should do about someone throwing furniture and acting out dangerously in a public place... taser would be appropriate, because if he gets close to an officer's weapon, he could have easily killed many people. How would you propose subduing a violent person like that? There must be a better way than what they did, obviously. But how would you handle that situation better? Is there a more humane weapon available to subdue a public danger, which is what he was obviously. I thought law enforcement knew not to hold people down that way -- it's so lethal.

5. I watched the entire thing
As a former Marine Corps Military Policeman, I have to say that the cops were totally useless. There was no real attempt to negotiate with the guy, there was no real attempt to find out what was bothering him. There was no real attempt to find out what would make him happy, so we could all go home. He wasn't even a threat. There was no real attempt to calm him down, and find out what his problem was. He could have been easily taken down without using a Tazer, he could have been taken down and talked to into going home and sleeping it off in so many ways.

They just wanted to taze him. And it's sad. That's not being a good cop. Sometimes people just lose their minds temporarily, they just need a talking to. This whole business of taserering people is just wrong.

23. I read that he had been held up for TEN HOURS. No translator was provided and
he hadn't been told why he was being held.

I'd be damned upset too.

24. If you have just gotten off a plane, with no clean air and oxygen,
And you are dehydrated because theydon't offer much in the way of nourishment (Plus you can't bring in liquids), it's easy to predict that some people will act nutty.

But no one should be killed for acting nutty!

26. isn't this the guy
that had been sitting in detention for hours and hours because he only spoke Polish and no one understood him? His mom in the Airport frantically asking for someone to help find him?

Or is this a different Vancouver Airport Taser Death?

27. Agreed....another thing...the man spoke Russian
what are the odds if they went over the loudspeaker and asked if there was anyone that Spoke Russian in the Canadian airport they could have found someone.

No these cops were lazy...they didn't think that the man may have been meedically impaired....

No they misused the taser....they taser him again while he was writhing in pain because of the previous taser. The cops should be held accountable.

15. That so deserves criminal action.
The video clearly shows that the man wasn't threatening the officers. And then you have a RCMP officer stating this is just one person's view. Its a F'ing camera. That's the way it went down. I didn't realize Bush had minions in Canada too.

20. THAT is at the very center of the problem. So often it seems
that the taser is being used after the "suspect" is effectively subdued. It is being used as punishment. "How DARE you not obey me immediately and in the exact fashion that I wish?"

25. I just saw the tape on CNN,
and I sincerely hope the RCMP gets their shit together before people start heading to the 2012 Winter Olympics.

His mom cleans houses in Kamploops and saved for 8 years to save money to pay for her son's ticket. He had never been on a plane nor outside Poland before.

:grr:
