Just one week to go!
One week until many of us sit down at the Thanksgiving table with our rabid Bush-bot relatives.

One week until many of us will do our best to stay calm in the face of ignorance while saying, "Please pass the cranberry sauce."

One week until we grit our teeth and smile while saying, "But the facts don't support your assertion."

One week until our mom or dad or grandmother or wife says, "OK...no talking politics at the table!"

One week until we find ourselves defending Clinton or Obama or Edwards from some crazy FOX News generated talking points.

One week....

Can't wait. Can you?

3. So sorry to hear that is how your family is
Mine, on the other hand, can't stand Bush. My brother, a Viet Nam veteran, has been an ardent Democrat since forever, and even my 89 year old Mom no longer votes Republican. Only thing that might happen is that they support another Democrat other than Dennis Kucinich.

No, our bone of contention will be about mystics and other folks. My niece, also a mystic, is coming with her family-we'll drive them nuts calling each other by our spiritual names rather than our birth names.

12. If you don't mind attending a wedding as well
Everyone is coming in for the wedding and Thanksgiving. My brother is hosting it all-he won't notice one more person in the mob! :)

4. One of the major benefits of not living near 'home' is that I don't have
to worry about it! You have my sympathies.

5. Get scrapbooking kids!
Put together an album with all the things you're favorite candidate has done and leave it on the coffee table for all to see.

6. WWPD? (What Would Pollyanna Do?)
First, she'd react to the prospect of dealing with such relatives and tell you
blood-curdling stories about her Aunt Polly...

Then, she'd play the Glad Game...

... And say, "Be glad that it'll be 365 Whole Days before Thanksgiving comes around again."

I'll be thinking about you next week. Hang in there!

7. One week to seeing my brother!
One week to meeting my youngest niece and nephew for the first time.

One week until we all get to share a meal together and NOT talk about politics or the war.

Nope, I can't wait. I am looking forward to it a great deal.

Sorry yours is going to suck. I've never had to deal with Pukes in the family and we generally avoid topics of religion or politics anyway.

8. I am happy to say that we don't go through this in our family. We
all look forward to having a Democrat back in the White House and have all said that we will support the Democratic nominee whoever he/she may be. I don't think anyone is backing a particular Democratic candidate strongly enough to argue about it.

15. I read in the news last year that one Thanksgiving fight lead to a death.
It was a political argument that escolated into a brawl and ended in a stabbing. The guy who killed the other was aquitted for self defense. Don't know whose affiliation was represented.

18. I don't have any Bush supporting relatives.
At my table will be 2 independent-leaning Democrats and an anarchist. Along with a family friend whose politics are unknown.

Another independent-leaning Democrat will be calling in from out of state.

The final family member is 7, and has no idea what politics are. His world is ruled by riding his bike, climbing trees, imaginary sword fights against invisible opponents, songs, board games, books, ball games, and getting the dog to chase him. If we have a political discussion, he may ask a question. He's more likely to give us a couple of minutes and then step in to try to redirect the conversation to something he can relate to.

And that's the whole total of family.
