Gonzo has set up a legal defense fund..
Big Al can't afford to defend himself against these politically motivated charges. Poor Gonzo... :nopity:

Supporters of former attorney general Alberto R. Gonzales have created a trust fund to help pay for his legal expenses, which are mounting in the face of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into whether Gonzales committed perjury or improperly tampered with a congressional witness.

The establishment of a legal defense fund for the nation's former chief law enforcement officer underscores the potential peril confronting Gonzales, who is one of a handful of attorneys general to face potential criminal charges for actions taken in office.

David G. Leitch, a Gonzales friend and general counsel at the Ford Motor Co., wrote in an e-mail solicitation to potential contributors last month that Gonzales is "innocent of any wrongdoing" but does not have the means to pay for his legal defense after a career spent mostly in public service.

"In the hyper-politicized atmosphere that has descended on Washington, an innocent man cannot simply trust that the truth will out," Leitch wrote. "He must engage highly competent legal counsel to represent him. That costs money, money that Al Gonzales doesn't have."

with their legal fees.

And it is interesting that people will give what will surely amount to millions of dollars to help defend one guy, but they won't give that money to hungry people.

And that's not an indictment of just Republicans, I'm sure it would happen with Democrats as well - but we'd likely only set up a defense fund for someone that we truly believe to be innocent.

Gonzalez is so clearly guilty of wrongdoing, he doesn't seem worth defending, and this makes the waste of money even worse.

But, I suppose, on the other hand, if these guys don't pony up a few million to help defend Gonzalez, a whole lot more of them are gonna end up on trial. They might feel that defending Alberto is sticking the proverbial finger in the hole in the dike wall. Alberto is the type who would, I'm sure, unless they've already threatened to kill his family, out everyone's criminal behavior. If he knows he's going down, he's just sleazy enough to take everyone with him. Unless, as I said, they've already guaranteed against that by making sure he knows that his family will "suicide" themselves somehow; probably something legitimate like shoot themselves in the back of the head with a rifle then drive their car off a bridge in a state they don't live in.

SO much for that famous Bush family loyalty. Used and abused, Gonzo is. And too stupid to realize it.
