Conflicting stories on 25 killed in Iraq.

During a 12-hour fire fight north of Baghdad on Tuesday night, 25 armed Iraqis were killed. But local authorities disagree with the U.S. military over who exactly was killed, al Qaeda militants or anti-al Qaeda fighters:

“U.S. forces backed by aircraft killed 25 suspected insurgents in operations targeting al Qaeda militants near the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Thursday.”

VERSUS

“Iraqi officials said Thursday they were investigating whether American troops had mistakenly killed some two dozen anti-al Qaeda fighters earlier this week north of Baghdad.”

In a statement, the U.S. military said the fight began when “coalition forces observed several armed men in the target area and, perceiving hostile intent, called for supporting aircraft to engage.”

1. 25 is standard # when one soldier is killed
you'd think they'd use a random # generator or something but pretty much it goes 25 insurgents per one US soldier killed, 4 soldiers killed, 200 insurgents reportedly go down. pretty standard really. It's in the Bush war plan manual.

2. I've been saying it for years now...
What makes a "suspected insurgent"? The fact that they were shot by U.S. soldiers?

8. "Suspected insurgent" is just more military PIO (public info office) doublespeak.
My favorite has always been NVA Regulars. The Marine PIO El-Tee in Full Metal Jacket did a great riff on "NVA Regulars" during a style-sheet briefing for his Stars and Stripes writers (including Joker and Rafferman): So, just what is an NVA Irregular?

3. Not surprised here, ON cnn this am, we are to believe that because
Iraq's are having more weddings than in recent months all is well on the war front...

I watched a bit of msnbc as well, I had hopes for Joe for a time, but just like tweety, they cannot be trusted, once shrills for the gop, always will they fall back on heeding the memo to attack attack attack all that represents democracy in this country.

Again, even with this information, will the majority of American citizens really care if those slain were al queda or just iraq citizens defending their homes? Of course not, our prejudices towards others is very real and sadly too prevalent in the minds of too many.

Not enough will care...when will our uncaring of human life lost that are not Americans be our undoing?

4. I also watched the news or (what they call news) last nite
and this filthy administration is trying so hard to make it seem that things are going so well in Iraq, what total BS. They did not talk about the attack near the Green Zone or how many troops got killed in that situation or how many Iraqis got killed, or how we are causing a humanitarian crisis of Iraqis going to other countries for refuge. The media again shows its total incompetence and does not report the truth to the American people. Thus the dumbing down of Americans continues.

5. The military has a lot of credibility with the American public, so if the
military sez they killed "insurgents", then that's it--there's no questioning it. MY question is, why are we still there, killing anybody?
