NEW YORK Two-thirds say they’ll do it for a year’s tuition. And for a few, even an iPod touch will do.

That’s what New York University students said they’d take in exchange for their right to vote in the next presidential election, a recent survey by an NYU journalism class found.

Twenty percent said they’d exchange their vote for an iPod touch. But 66 percent said they’d forfeit their vote for a free ride to NYU. And half said they’d give up the right to vote forever for $1 million.

was coming up in the draft...

4. Nah, they'd just assume their mommies and daddies would get a doctor's note for them
I have a feeling a lot of young Repubs will suddenly come down with incurable asthma.

14. I believe that's why we have Black Water serving as the national morphine

sucking the public coffers dry, enriching the private owned military industrial complex while they hollow out the public owned military. If there was a draft, you would see far more protestations against voluntary wars based on lies and Bush's poll ratings would be minus something because more Canadians would be pissed at him as well. I feel nausea when ever I see news coverage of Black Water and the media spew one side of the story by saying we need private contractors such as Black Water for security reasons because the military is stretched too thin while Cheney/Bush simultaneously torture the military on a dungeon rack stretching them ever thinner.

Curisously.. I was thinking something similar...
What I was thinking is that some time on the frontlines would change their priorities.

That is pretty tempting!

And think how much sanity we could save by not focusing so much on politics all the time!! :)

15. Everybody who can vote can vote for people who would
legislate your one million away in taxes or fines or whatever. Or make you also ineligible for many other things.

7. This isn't surprising. Think about the percentage of people who just
don't bother to vote...they haven't been given anything in exchange for giving up that right for a year...but if you don't exercise that right, you're essentially giving it up.

8. Maybe Oprah W and Steve J have good points after all.

Ironic, in some ways... a mouth who hawks specially colored ones for disease research bashes children who want them, and then the man - who runs a company that makes them - claims teachers and their unions are rubbish.

In short, there's more than all this than a bunch of kids (1 out of every 5 according to the poll).

Wouldn't take much for me to sell my right to vote either...

Well, at least our right to have our vote COUNTED fairly.

And the million forever... yep, I'd take that too. I'm working class here.

16. No wonder this country is fucked.
Honestly, if that big of a ratio would trade their right to vote for a fucking IPOD, we deserve a dictatorship. :argh:

I'm glad our forefathers had foresight.

We should turn their graves into power generators; they must be spinning furiously right about now.
