Officials at Three Mile Island in Dauphin County declared a low-level emergency at the plant early this morning after instruments had indicated a slight drop in the level of the reactor coolant system. The instrument reading turned out to be erroneous in that the level of the coolant system had never decreased. The station called off its low-level emergency at 9:29 a.m. today. The erroneous readings resulted from a change in pressure caused by maintenance outage activities, according to a plant statement.
2. An Unusual Event was declared at 6:32 a.m. yesterday at Three Mile Island (TMI) in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County due to the uncontrolled loss of water level in the Unit #1 reactor refueling cavity. The Unit #1 reactor was already in outage for maintenance. The incident was terminated at 9:29 a.m. Notifications: Departments of Environmental Protection (Bureau of Radiation Protection and Headquarters) and Health, Office of Homeland Security, Public Utility Commission, State Police, Dauphin County and PEMA Central Area Office.
