Is it possible Pelosi could lose in '08?
As a native San Franciscan I am both pleased and ashamed to see our representative as Speaker. She doesn't seem to be doing her job, though. How much of a stranglehold on the position does she have? San Francisco is very progressive and with the right candidate and enough attention given to her dereliction of duty, it seems she could get what she deserves. Am I just dreaming?

13. you really need it explained to you?
years of service to her constituents, a dozen campaigns run, high name recognition, voter registration figures in her favor?

17. I meant why are you proud of her?
I suppose her record has been pretty good but at this point in time, when she appears to be working directly against the will of the people, it is difficult to like her.

28. in my opinion, which I know you'll disagree with,
Speaker Pelosi has been doing everything a Speaker can when faced with a psychopathic President.

Blah blah blah impeachment blah blah blah, impeachment might not even make it out of the house, and would definitely not reach the mark needed in the Senate.

I look at her record supporting higher education, trying to improve America's image abroad and locking horns with Bush on S-CHIP and stem cell research and I'm proud she's Speaker.

And no, Cindy Sheehan and/or Dennis Kucinich would not do as well.

11. No.
She is First Among Equals in the House. She was elected to that position by her PEERS, her fellow legislators. She is personally liberal, but has chosen to perform her leadership role in a fashion that plainly suits the caucus, even if it doesn't suit some here.

She will win, and by a landslide.

Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 04:49 PM by charlie and algernon
i didn't know DU was that localized to one area.

and the fact that kucinich dominates every poll on DU but is WELL behind the front runners in every real poll, shows where the nation is in regard to DU.

so Pelosi is well safe bearing no major gaffes or scandals.

37. Pelosi's decisions only effect people in her district --- ????
When Pelosi comes to the floor of the USHR is she speaking only as a CA rep?

Or is Pelosi speaking to all Americans?

I'm sure Pelosi takes comfort from your assurances . . .

As Americans reflect their displeasure with Pelosi as Speaker,
we presume that CA residents are also sharing that displeasure ---

some of it being reported here at DU . . .

34. Although most DUers agree that the war needs to end, that
impeachment should take place, and that Pelosi is doing a lousy job as ML, that doesn't mean that they agree with many of the things Sheehan has said. And of course, it matters not at all what most DUers think. Sheehan doesn't stand a chance for a myriad of reasons: she's said one outrageous thing after another, she's engaged in blatant and ugly personal attacks, she doesn't know the issues of the district, having never lived there, and she doesn't have any grasp on foreign or domestic policy. She's in the low single digits in polling. It's also difficult but not impossible to vote out a ML.
