What's the deal with John Coleman (co-founder of Weather Channel) and his GW denial?
I've been some right-wingers crowing about one of the founders of The Weather Channel, John Coleman, coming out and declaring Global Warming to be a "scam".

It strikes me as unfathomable that even in the face of overwhelming data and facts, that the Flat Earth Society is not only still breathing, but picking up new "influential" members and growing in size. These assholes used to be on the scientific fringe, but they sure seem to be growing in numbers.

The real threat from these assholes is that they can influence governments - especially the US - to either delay action on Global Warming, or not to take any action at all.

2. Some of the biggest GW detractors are meteorologists. However note that
meteorology is not the same as climatology and many meteroologists do not have a graduate degree, let alone a Ph.D. So they are hardly qualified to judge the merits of the research.

4. Makes sense - even still, politicians are listening to them
IMHO, these idiots are nothing more than political hacks and money-grubbers being paid off by Big Oil and other industries who don't want to see their operations affected. Be that as it may, it seems that some in Congress - even a few of our "own" are more than willing to pay attention to them, as if they actually had something worthwhile to say.

6. ...and before that Omaha, Nebr.
I watched his antics doing the weather as a kid.

Weather then sports were pretty much the only time during the broadcast that news directors would allow any kind of "info-tainment" on their shows.

As far as Coleman's opinion about global warming, it's hard to take seriously a guy who sometimes did the weather forecast upside down in a barrel.

7. I don't remember why he did it, but I do remember
John Coleman crawling around on the floor of the newsroom. John Coleman was the goofiest guy we've ever had on the news and I can't believe anyone could take ANYTHING he says seriously. Just LOOK at him in that picture!

5. Meteorology is not "an exact science." Climatology is.
Just because someone is the "co-founder" of a television channel devoted to reporting current weather conditions and a meteorologist doesn't make them an expert on the issue of global warming, or even qualified to really offer a credible opinion on the matter. I am much more persuaded by the opinions of climatologists over meteorologists.

How many times has a meteorologist said it was going to rain on any given day, and when that day comes there isn't a drop of rain within 100 miles of the area?

8. "Our planet is not in peril."
"I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming."

Apparently John Coleman is not trained in climatology. Flat Earth Society indeed. :eyes:
