Did Barry Bonds commit an UNDERLYING crime?

I'm just using the Bushies logic with regard to Scooter Libby here:

All he is being charged with here is perjury, but not be underlying crime of steroids itself.

So...

What's the big deal?

2. The only thing they can definelty prove is perjury

all he would have had to do is say yeah, I used steroids back when it was legal, which is what he did. And they couldn't do a thing to him.

How do they knowingly know that he knew he was taking the illegal stuff and when did it become illegal ?

If he said he didn't "knowingly" take the illegal stuff the prosecution is on shaky ground. Is Bond's former mistress the GJ's source for information ? If getting a payday was her goal, Playboy has responded in their Nov issue.

Since 1991 steroid use w/o a prescription became illegal but how would you prove use ?

What is the accuracy of any of the tests ? Barring any outright admission from Mr Bonds of knowingly taking any, it won't matter much what the mistress has to say.
