It's about the person, not the party
There are reasons a lot of people dislike Hillary Clinton. For one thing, she doesn't answer questions. Another reason is that she has huge corporate backers. The media loves her. And she's backed by the DLC, which is a cancer on the Democratic party, as we all know.

The core reason, however, is that she is not a liberal. She is the most conservative of the Democratic contenders.

So what's my point, you may ask? Only that the "D" beside her name is meaningless, as are the "D"'s next to many other prominent "Democrats"' names. If you don't believe me, how about a thought experiment?

Tom DeLay has decided to switch parties and become a Democrat. Would you vote for him? After all, he has a "D" beside his name now. Would threads actively attempting to undermine Mr. DeLay's candidacy be locked on DU? I would certainly hope not.

It's not about the party one belongs to. It's about their principles on the issues, no matter what they call themselves. It's about supporting liberals instead of conservatives in the Democratic party.

1. That also means starting on a local level
to back liberal candidates in primaries, even if they are opposing conservative opponents. That's how we get rid of DINOs in the House and Senate.

I agree with you about the importance of their principles.

2. When Al Gore ran in 2000, he was the guy who defended NAFTA...
...in debates with Ross Perot.

Gore wanted to increase H1B visas, a system of replacing American comptuer programmers with foreign computer programmers.

Ralph Nader speculated that George W. Bush might appoint better people to the Supreme Court than Gore would.

With hindsight, almost every liberal in America knows how much better we would have been with Gore as president.

With the beneft of that lesson learned, we should realize how much better Hillary Clinton would be than any of the Republican nominees.

4. For me (as an independent), it's ALWAYS about the person and their stances.
I look for intellectual consistency, foundation principles, demonstrated learning, and integrity.

Paul Wellstone said, "Never separate the lives you live from the words you speak." I look for that in any candidate. In fact, I look for that in anyone with whom I have a relationship, socially, political, or professional.
