Why does every group with the words "Family", "Christian", or "Values" ...
consist of a bunch of stone-cold, batshit crazy, jackasses?
I am a Christian, my family (wife and two sons) are the most important things in my life, and I am teaching my sons the values of tolerance, self-reliance, and kindness. But I would not associate myself with any of the aforementioned asshole groups if you held a fucking 357 magnum to my head!

19. Jesus said I come not in peace but with a sword.
He also said he came to split families and to set one member against the other.

He has certainly succeeded in splitting millions of families for several generations, over religious differences.

He also said that if you are truly a follower of him you should leave your family, sell or give away all your possessions, and follow him around.

Yes those are family values in the Bible.

9. Because these people can't say what they really are,
a bunch of far right loonies who are glad to pitch for every republican cause that comes their way, hence they appeal to causes that appeal to a majority of Americans; "family", "christianity", and "values". What they really represent is lack of compassion for their fellow man, opposition to any social program that could help the less fortunate, and a true hatred for democratic values.

taken?

Now that I've got my snark out of the way; you have my sympathy.

I cannot imagine what it must be like for a Christian to see Jesus used as a logo for hatred. Nor can I imagine what it must be like to try to find Christians of like mind in a very muddied "religious" environment.

I wish you peace and happiness within your family and in your community.

14. You Mean Like The Southern Christian Leadership Council??

From the SCLC Webpage ( http://sclcnational.org/net/content/page.aspx?s=25461.0.12.2607 ):

"The very beginnings of the SCLC can be traced back to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The Montgomery Bus Boycott began on December 5, 1955 after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the bus. The boycott lasted for 381 days and ended on December 21, 1956, with the desegregation of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott was carried out by the newly established Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA). Martin Luther King, Jr. served as President and Ralph David Abernathy served as Program Director. It was one of history’s most dramatic and massive nonviolent protests, stunning the nation and the world."

"Presidents:
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: 1957 to 1968
Rev. Ralph D. Abernathy: 1968 to 1977
Rev. Joseph E. Lowery: 1977 to 1997
Mr. Martin L. King, III: 1997 to 2004
Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth: February 2004 to November 2004
Mr. Charles Steele, Jr.: November 2004 to Present"

Not exactly a bunch of stone-cold, batshit crazy jackasses.

17. i'm in the same boat as you -- and i am furious that they
are the ones used by media to describe all that is christian.

beyond that -- it's about two things -- fear of modernity and regaining control over peoples genitalia.
yes it's unpleasant to discuss in those terms -- but that's really the deal.
if they can assert how your sons think and feel about their bodies and their privates and -- and those of other people -- they have the most significant control they need over someone.

it's simple -- it's to the point -- and it's been tested through the millennia to work.

22. It's all about control. Marx was right about one thing. Religion is opiate for the
people. Regardless of what people get out of their spiritual connection with God, our society has set up churches, and now politicians, to hijack that faith. Before, all you had to do was believe in Jesus Christ to be a Christian. Now the bar has been raised. Republicans have been trying to co-opt Christianity, and all the values that are associated with it, and by doing that, they control people.

24. That would be the difference between "being & living your faith" and "posing for political gain"
You and your kind will find a lot less resistance from us heathens. We're not so far apart on what constitutes civil behavior in a civil society. I am, personally, a huge fan of the rights and wrongs listed in the Bible; how to act and how to treat other people.

Hypocrisy and greed created the split and honesty will heal it.

I adhere to no organized religion, all the big ones have some great points, but ONE, in particular, has been hijacked by some really nasty people.

28. Taken from the "Tao Te King":
Chapter 38:

"(Those who) possessed in highest degree the attributes (of the Tao) did not (seek) to show them, and therefore they possessed them (in fullest measure). (Those who) possessed in a lower degree those attributes (sought how) not to lose them, and therefore they did not possess them (in fullest measure).

(Those who) possessed in the highest degree those attributes did nothing (with a purpose), and had no need to do anything. (Those who) possessed them in a lower degree were (always) doing, and had need to be so doing.

(Those who) possessed the highest benevolence were (always seeking) to carry it out, and had no need to be doing so. (Those who) possessed the highest righteousness were (always seeking) to carry it out, and had need to be so doing.

(Those who) possessed the highest (sense of) propriety were (always seeking) to show it, and when men did not respond to it, they bared the arm and marched up to them.

Thus it was that when the Tao was lost, its attributes appeared; when its attributes were lost, benevolence appeared; when benevolence was lost, righteousness appeared; and when righteousness was lost, the proprieties appeared."
