Jack Cafferty's question for the hour: Should the government be able to limit violence on TV?
My response:
HELL NO!

Why can't all these parents, the ones so worried about their kids watching violence or other "objectionable" content, actually sit down with their children and watch TV with them? I wonder how well their children would behave, if they actually paid any attention to them instead of letting a TV, iPod or computer babysit them.

These parents talk about the responsibility of broadcasters, but what about their responsibility to their children? If you don't want to take care of your kids, then don't have them. If you want kids, then be ready to take care of them.

If they don't like what they see on TV, they can simply turn it off. If enough people turn off their TVs, then the networks will change their programs to cater to their audience. It's called the free market, and it works well when parents are responsible.

2. If it was up to me, I wouldn't grant this government the power...
...to water my flowers. As for deciding what I can and can't watch, I think they have far too much influence over that as it is. I know it's not my decision to fill the channels with rightwing talking heads and religious zealots, so it must be theirs.
