My son is home from the VA hospital
He has been there three months, transferred from his home town hospital. He was being treated for that flesh eating bacteria. He has nothing but praise for the hospital. He said they treat the veterans with care and respect. He says they give you anything they can to make you comfortable. They have activities to keep you occupied and the personnel were swell.

I am so sorry, that this type of treatment is not available at all the veterans hospitals. It is a shame to our veterans that they don't get the treatment they need. I do know that Minneapolis is far from the maddening crowd like DC but if they can do this here. Damn it they can give our vets the good treatment they deserve. Where would this country be if our veterans did not fight to protect us....Shame on this administration.

1. Congrats on his recovery!
All the nurses I know from the VA here are great people.

3. I worked at a VAMC and it's a two way street
The rehab there was the best I've ever seen. It's a no frills system, forget that attendant to wheel you to Xray in a wheel chair, just grab your chart from the desk and go.

The vets there were as grateful for the care they were given as we were for their service. In that way, it was a wonderful place to work.

Even if we get universal health care, the VA system needs to be maintained. Their specialty lies in getting wounded vets back to the highest functioning level they can achieve, and often that level leads them back to living an independent and productive life.

However, every conservative administration has shortchanged the system, refusing to fund it adequately, keeping it dangerously short staffed and allowing the buildings to deteriorate.

The problem is conservatism. The cure is liberalism. Vote accordingly.

5. I glad your son got good care. Someday maybe all Americans
will be so fortunate; but I fear it won't be any time soon.

10. Glad For Your Son, But.....
I'm glad your son is better and that he was treated with care and respect at the VA hospital that treated him.

Every VA hospital I have ever visited has been a rat's nest -- dirty, foul-smelling, with uncaring staff completely indifferent to the needs of the patients.

As you said -- Shame on this administration.

11. VA hosptal
Shame on this and every other administration for the last fifty years. What you describe has existed since at least the 1960s. Some VA facitlites are actully pretty good hospitals, others I would not allow any relative of mine to spend time in.
