Four news channels, and they all SUCK!!!
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 09:36 PM by meldroc
OK, let's see what's on the news channels at this moment:

CNN: Larry King Live. Top story, Anna Nicole Smith is still dead. Her condition has stabilized and is not expected to deteriorate any further.

Headline News: Glenn Beck :puke: I liked his op-eds in the original German. Tonight, he's mocking Al Franken for leaving Air America and running for Senate. Then he went on a rant about how those two border patrol agents are in prison. After all, they only shot a man in the back, then tried to cover their tracks, and he's only a Mexican...

Fox Noise Channel: Hannity and Colmes. Yep, they can claim they're Fair and Balanced (TM), since they have a conservative and a liberal. Of course, the show consists entirely of "HI, I'M SEAN HANNITY, AND I'M GOING TO SHOUT EVERYONE DOWN AND DOMINATE THE SHOW!!!" "Hi, I'm Alan Colmes, the milquetoast liberal wimp. Please don't hurt me." Oh, boy, they've got Newt Gingrinch on, saying the Iraq War Resolution is a victory for the terrorists. :eyes:

MSNBC: They put on Olbermann, which is the one bright spot on their lineup, but once they satisfy the beancounters who insist they have to have Olbermann on to keep their ratings up, they go straight to Lockup: The Prison Freakshow. Yep, gotta crank up that fear factor among the plebes so more of them go along with the neo-con agenda.

IT ALL SUCKS!!! ALL OF IT!!! CAN'T THE NEWS CHANNELS PUT ON SOME FUCKING NEWS INSTEAD OF FASCIST PROPAGANDA?!?!?!

1. My blood pressure went down went I put the channel on MonstersHD
and leave it there. The corporate whore-porate media must be destroyed. It has become an enemy of our democracy.

3. I can't speak for Faux or MSNBC
But CNN used a really good news station and a friend to the liberals but I think when Ted Turner sold off CNN it all went downhill from there promoting a centrist adgenda I mean it gets pretty bad when they got "dollar" Bill Bennett on election night 2006 analysing races.

6. Over on international radio, Deutsche Welle is doing a good job.
I rarely listen to US radio news, prefering to tune into BBC or Deutsche Welle.

Of course it helps that I understand German.

7. I only listen to NPR and read news online. Helps with the blood pressure. And that reminds
me, NPR had an excellent series this week on Morning Edition dealing with the history of the Shiites and Sunnis, how badly we have screwed up Iraq.

8. Try Democracy Now! or BBC World News
The top 10 minutes of DN! is the headlines. Amy Goodman is one of the best reporters/journalists going. Just the facts, ma'am. If you don't get LinkTV or Free Speech TV, check the DN! website for a local radio or PBS station that carries the show. They also stream it online at their site, and there are daily transcripts available as well.

BBC might be a bit harder to get if your sat/cable company don't carry it, but again it's well done and in depth.

Neither consider the hearing over the disposition of ANS's remains "Breaking News" or worthy of live feed, and neither will push the new laser comb for thinning hair as "news".

9. Just a suggestion....
And I completely agree with everything you mentioned. But the best way to get your news was and never will be from television. The best way to get your news is to read and read from multiple sources. Start by reading what is on LBN then GD then perhaps other sources like google news. Save the television for watching programs for entertainment purposes......

I'm tired of watching "commentators" that all sound like Prothero from V for Vendetta...

I get far better news watching The Daily Show and Colbert.

15. Apart from the web, many of the others are owned by the same folks who own
those 4 channels op is referring to.

17. True, to some degree. The difference is that you can be a lot more selective
with what you choose to read, listen to, or view online.

Four channels don't offer much variety, particularly when they all fixate on the same "breaking news".

you espouse right-wing ideology. Nevermind that right-wing ideology is not selling these days. Management has decided that the acceptable range of commentary runs from corporatist to overtly fascist. That's all you get, so it's always "popular", no matter how bad the host is.

It's like saying Robinson Crusoe's favorite food was obviously coconuts, because he ate them every day.

real public media. since even national pentagon radio has sold out and gave more air time and respect to a dead horse than molly ivins, who used to be one their commentators fcol, they'll never see another nickel of mine. first bob edwards and then molly.there'll be sno-cone stands in hades before my support to the CPB is anything like what it once was. i just wish i had a convenient way of listening to CBC and BBC.
