It's a holiday week inside the Beltway and everyone is headed home to stuff themselves with turkey and take that long tryptophan snooze in front of whatever TV is broadcasting football games. Except for John McCain, who is off to feed the troops in Iraq.

Before leaving for the Prairie Chapel to pet the cows, that tough talkin' Texan from Kennebunkport used his radio address to attack Democrats in Congress - yet again - for failing to support the troops; ie, not giving him perpetual no-stings-attached funding for perpetual killings and a bottomless pool of unmarked cash for the enrichment of his friends in the military-industrial complex. Ironically, the giggling killer accuses democrats of the crimes he himself is committing: leaving our men and women in uniform vulnerable and in harm's way.

And Bush is confused as yet another one of his "good advisors who give him advice from whom he listens to get sound advice" has left the sinking ship USS Bush to NOT spend more time with her family. After four+ years on the job, Fran Townsend is vacating her post as Chucklenutz' top Homeland Security advisor. "I'm going to just take another job doing 20-hour days, but this time in the private sector," said Townsend, who has spent 25 years working in law enforcement and government. Townsend's job, as the president's top adviser on fighting terrorism, involved identifying terrorist groups around the globe, assessing their threat, and finding ways to track and cut off their funding.

Maybe she's leaving now because she knows what we've been predicting for quite some time: that Bush's phoney terror wars are about to fall apart like a fragile house of cards and she doesn't want to be anywhere near the scene of the implosion.

I think we're making progress with starving kitty. I was on the phone sitting on a corner of the deck and to my surprise kitty was in the breezeway looking at me (it usually runs away at the sight of any of us or the sound of voices). I got up slowly and quietly and went into the house and h/she went to the bowl to eat. Baby steps, baby steps. :hug:

Hoping all is well with you! I'm kinda grouchy in spurts today and I'm not sure why! Mom came up today and we dug up some plants that she wanted, potted them, etc., she got to hear my asshole neighbor yelling at his wife, and Mom realized that I hadn't been exaggerating about what an asshole he is!

came across the yard in a challenging manner and HAC just looked at h/she until h/she kept coming. HAC then placed her head and shoulders between the railings on the porch, while I was talking quietly telling them to knock it off. Anyway, HAC went off the porch and they tangled up and h/she was trying to get through the lattice that skirts the porch floor and got stuck!

Fortunately, HAC didn't take advantage, but walked out into the yard and was looking half perplexed/amused and the poor little thing finally shoved its' way through and under the porch. It was around today while I was outside talking on the phone and it didn't run away. I slowly got up and went inside and h/she went to bowl and began eating. Progress in baby steps?

Mike just read the email about the woman carrying the sign. I hate to tell him (me being a law school graduate, non-practicing, and all) but .... the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a long time ago that the government may regulate the time, place and manner of your speech. They may require a permit, and may require a reasonable fee, and certain federal properties engaging in business may be even more restricted as to speech. What the guy needed to do was to go upstairs, and pay the fee so that he and the woman could protest. Additionally, if the government may NOT engage in what's called 'viewpoint discrimination.'

Just sayin.'

What if it's not an "official" protest? What if a bunch of people who just happen to be wearing t-shirts that have political messages suddenly show up in the same place at about approximately the same time?

How are you guys doing? How's Snowball? How's Dexter?

It doesn't matter whether or not it is a protest (per what I remember). I don't think that they could stop people wearing T-shirts; I think there has to be some marching involved or the like.

We're doing fine. Snowey went on antibiotics and is fine now. Dex is doing great. So are Coco and Dot. We adopted Dex six months ago. At the time, I had his stool tested, and his blood. He was healthy, but had a slight 'cold,' if you will. So, he was on antibiotics (that would have killed anything). Anyway, the gal next door scared me, because some of the kittens that were in the litter after Dexter's were found to have an intestinal parasite (one that only hurts the weak and the old, and can be cured by antibiotics). Well, Snowey had the loose stool and the blood in it. The vet just put him on antibiotics and whatever ailed him went away. So, case closed, right? Well, then I heard and I got paranoid, "Did Dex bring in something six months ago?" Well, the facts above tell you that I'm just being silly. And, even if he did, Snowey got the treatment that would have cured it (by coincidence or whatever). I'm just fussing, and thinking, "Maybe I should take a stool sample in on each one." All are healthy, stay strictly indoors, and aren't in any grave danger anyway. I guess that we kitty-mommies just fuss (or I do). Oh, well, they're insured!

It's hard not to worry about our kitty babies, though. Big :hug:s to all the kids, furry and un-furry!!

Yes, I know for a fact the second litter picked up all kinds of things (fleas, etc., in an area in which we never had fleas - it used to be too hot and dry out here - global warming, I guess). Anyway, we're surviving, and I'm hoping that you and your furry (ies?) are doing fine also!

My wife and I are going to do the normal dinner here with just the two of us and remember JFK since the forth thursday lands on the 22nd .

No family here , no friends left all moved way years ago .

I took my anxiety riddled body into the super market and got what we need and that's about it . Seemed like days in the store even though it was an hour .

we have our cats but they are not into turkey like out old four were , things have really changed around here .

I'll be doing a best of Malloy thread Thursday night if you want to drop by. Mr. smokey and I hit the grocery store today too, it was really crowded.

Last year we got some horrid prepared dinner from Marie Calendars and it was alot of food but was horrid . We did X-mas on our own but I always went to late and they had run out of almost everything so i had to hit 4 stores and really paniced out . I hate shopping let alone the anxiety i get just going out the door . But I made it this time .

You made it! I haven't even begun the grocery shopping, nor the trip to the liquor store yet. We did put our 'traveling around menu' together today. I'll probably get stuck in a crowd tomorrow, though! Take care. :hi:

I may do the turnip. I talked my sister into going frozen (I'm always afraid she's going to lose a finger cutting the fresh stuff) and offered to boil it and mash it here. She always adds other stuff to her turnip, but I can at least get the process started for her.

to maybe someday to do a turkey start small!!! You're a good girl to help your sister!! I'm experimenting this year, I am going to try to make my own stuffing instead of using Stove Top!!! Sausage stuffing, I am really being adventurous!!

for myself all the time - I LOVE turnip!!. I just don't add all the other stuff my sister puts into her turnips. I also make red cabbage for myself sometimes.

Like not enjoying driving at night. (It's getting dark at 5pm.) Of course, driving anytime in the Bay Area is a nightmare. My new job is 14 miles from home, 11 on I-80 freeway. Last Wednesday it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to work. So the next day I decided to stay on surface streets - it took 1 hour 15 minutes. Today I did a combo route and it "only" took 50 minutes.:banghead:
