Help - lost without Air America in San Diego!
I am beside myself. When I clean my house, drive in my car, go for a walk, my radio is now off. Can someone help me out me here? I would like to know how XM satellite works out regarding Air America. I am not interested in any music stations I just want my Air America back and is this the best way to go? My husband is not interested in politics, he listens to music on the regular radio in the car, and never talk radio, so I wear earphones while I clean house and I love to listen to talk radio when I walk. Would love some feedback. Thanks.

1. Do you have an ipod?
I believe most of the shows have downloadable pod casts.

2. ipod
no. Would this be better than satellite? I have satellite TV which is fantastic, but all I want now is Air America.

8. I really don't know.
I don't have an ipod, satellite, TV, or a radio. My computer is everything and I listen to the NY station on line.

I asked because I've seen the podcast buttons on the website. Others can advise you more as to whether it's better than satellite or not.

7. podcasts
Thank you for your kind response and links. I dont know anything about them or ipods or any pods...... I just want to be able to turn on 'a' radio and get ONE station in the United States of America. I will pay the $12.95 a month, if works, if these podcasts or ipods are better and I can turn them on like a radio fine, but methinks I might have to download stuff to get from a to b. I need the feedback from DU, thanks once again.

4. stream on the computer
but venture outside AAR and try Stephanie Miller or Malloy. How about Pacifica - any of that down your way?

5. Stream it! The corporate media monster can't stop you...yet
We have AA in the S.F. bay area but the signal is too weak to pickup on my home radios so I stream it on my laptop. Sometimes, I don't like the local programming, for instance, I prefer Randy to Ed so I switch to the national feed here
http://www.airamerica.com/

Sometimes, I prefer the local programming here

What I don't understand is why comcast, who advertises extensivly on AA does not carry them.

6. If you want to listen in "real time" XM is your answer...
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 12:14 AM by hlthe2b
Get a portable unit (Pioneer makes a good one) and you can listen wherever you go.. I bought one of the first portable units (Delphi MYFI2Go) several years ago and it has been a Godsend... The newer ones are smaller, but don't really do any more than mine does, so I just picked up another one (for cheap) on EBAY to use in the office. There's lots more on XM than AAR, but I pretty much just got it for that... Enjoy. It really isn't costly compared to most things...

9. real time
yes this is what I want. Had a huge argument with hubby before he went to bed, he was on about a portable unit and I could not see the forest for the trees. I dont care, just as long as I get ear plugs so I can clean house, go for a walk with my radio and drive in my car. I do not listen to the radio from the computer while I am on the computer because I like complete silence.

But how XM with Air America?

14. XM has its dedicated AAR channel, 167....
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 12:16 AM by hlthe2b
and it carries the bulk of AAR programming at the same time it would be online or broadcast from the source. However, there are a few exceptions. Ed Schultz is on in the morning and they shift Thom Hartman to the evening. HOwever, XM does broadcast some of Mike Malloy (no longer on AAR), so genually speaking, it is a good trade. I leave it on pretty much all the time, as I like some background noise most of the time and I rarely watch tv. I have a portable unit in a docking station hooked up to some amplified speakers... Works very well.

Denver/BOulder has a station, but I went with XM when the local affiliate decided to interrupt for sports frequently, for infomercials on the weekends, and didn't carry a lot of the AAR lineup.

XM is dependable that way. I like it and the $16 or so I pay for two radios each month seems well worth it. But, again, I don't pay for cable or satellite tv... I largely gave up on the boob tube some time back.

16. $16 - and 167 - ok!
I will call XM in the morning ..... eh, perhaps I better let hubby do some homework first. I hate going into mens shops - ie - Frye's. Frye's is cheaper than our military bases. I do not drag him into department stores, so this should work out about even. He says Center City will install, whereas Frye's will not, but I have not told him about your post regarding portables because he is asleep, but I know he is going to like this idea.

19. Take a look at their website (xmradio.com)
http://www.xmradio.com/onxm/index.xmc

You can learn all about the various services, channels, equipment, etc. that way..

While I'm set for right now, if I were going to replace my portable, I'd probably go with this one

The pioneer inno

Happy shopping.

11. I got an IPOD because of that reason
I get to listen to folks a day after, satellite works as tv. You buy the equipment and pay a monthly fee and listen to it as it is transmited

Right now listening to malloy over the net

17. hi
there you are! I feel like I have lost my best friend since I lost my radio station these last couple of weeks.
When my son gave me that news from north county about customers looking for other avenues to find Air America, I was pleasantly surprised. Air America must have been doing some serious GOOD/BAD damage here in San Diego to be taken off the air. The lying bastards who run this town I could throw them all of the Coronado Bridge.

20. Was getting the progressive community organized
remember, this town is essentially progressive... not that the power elite wants that

Now I listen to this online (rachel madow right now), or on the IPOD

My next buy for the pod will be an FM transmiter, so I can listen to it in the car. That is a couple months from now, probably in December or januray. Got a cheap speaker system at the Swap and I can still listen to my folks

During the day, in the car, KPBS is tolerable, and actually a joy when they run BBC news

12. I listen to Air America via iTunes on my computer
It's true that I can't listen to it in my car, but I have an FM transmitter hooked up to my computer, so I can listen to iTunes from any radio or stereo in my house.

15. and I am reading
the replies. Apparently, I am not the only one, my son was in the Frye's San Marcos store today looking for something and he happened to mention my problem with Air America and he was told that " your mom is not the only one, we have been swamped with customers looking for somewhere to go to find Air Ameria" so I do not feel so bad.

I have contributed to DU for a few years now, and I read it every day, I just do not write. Thanks for the welcome.
