There are about a dozen Ron Paul groups on our local meetup site
I just got an email from meetup and every other listing is for a Ron Paul group. According to meetup, they are going to be at every area shopping mall this afternoon. And they collected enough money to hire a plane to do a flyover at the big game tomorrow (KU-MU at Arrowhead). Only problem with that is the flyover is scheduled for 3:30 and the game doesn't start till 7:00.

I continue to be very impressed with how much support Ron Paul has. Of course, the MSM is ignoring him.

3. Unfortunately, there are some idiots who call themselves Democrats who support the nut.
They ignore his hideous environmental record, his ties to big oil, and focus only on the fact that he opposes the war (because we did it badly and it wasn't 'declared' mainly). If we'd been able to get all that oil, he'd be less opposed.

4. The truth is that Paul wants to run the country as it did prior to our civil war
Anyone who doesn't understand the implication of that, especially in regard to civil rights, is either uninformed or racist

5. Yes it is amazing
but I won't go so far as to call them lunatics. I think they are just really pissed off people who are latching on to the most extreme candidate they can find. I have met quite a few Ron Paul supporters in anti-war groups and they do seem pretty ignorant of the political process. They also rarely know that Ron Paul is anti-choice (or they try to argue that he just doesn't want the feds to legislate abortion - and I tell them, oh, just like it was before 1973, eh?). They also NEVER know about his racist views.

Most have never paid much attention to politics before.

I just wish we could capture their enthusiasm and persuade them to support a better candidate.

7. Thats kinda what i've been getting from the Ron Paul situation.
It seems that so many people are pissed and want real hardcore change. I think if Dennis was getting the publicity Paul is getting DK could be a force. Paul got his break with his little tirade in that single debate. What he said really ruffled feathers, and showed him in an oppositional light to the status quo.

I must admit i am entertained by Ron Paul, and i do admire his seeming straight forwardness. I do however recognize his a real fruitcake overall. Other than the whole war deal i find little else to agree with him on.

8. One of my friends said she admires him because he has integrity
He is one of the only candidates who says what he feels and sticks to it. She doesn't agree with his stance on anything but the war but she respects him for his integrity. Gave me something to think about. Might explain his appeal too.

9. I think Ron Paul benefits from.....
having a very simple message, a phenomenon which tends to attract those who don't usually pay much attention to politics. Unfortunately, this means these people would be unlikely to support a better candidate because that would mean focusing on more complex political scenarios.

I can't write off the Paul supporters either. Their hearts are in the right place, but their ignorance is a little scary.

10. On the one hand, this may be a good thing because it might split the RW vote
On the other hand, it's SCARY how many people can be influenced by far-RW-ers of various stripes!!!

And they tend to vote Democratic.

16. Seriously?
Greens are supporting someone who wants to abolish all enviromental regulation?

'Progressives' are supporting a far-RW-er who combines hard-line economic libertarianism and extreme social conservativism?

Things that make you go, "AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!"

But I would agree they need to dig a little deeper.

11. I am also impressed with this, much as I am impressed by
studies showing a third of Americans believe Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11. "I had no idea there were so many stupid people," I think. "That is an impressive number of stupid people."

13. I don't think they are stupid
The ones I know seem largely ignorant of the political process. There's a difference between ignorance and stupidity.

14. Ignorant would indeed be a more proper adjective for both groups of people.
Thank you for your correction; it's appreciated.

15. A lot of 9/11 truthers are Ron Paul supporters
And while I am not in that camp, I would never call them stupid either. Misguided, perhaps. Suspicious for sure but certainly not stupid.

9/11 truthers are both ignorant and stupid.

24. Do you know any 9/11 truthers?
I have a couple good friends who are truthers and they are incredibly intelligent. One has a PhD. The other has two college degrees and is probably the smartest person I know.

If it wasn't for these people, I would probably assume truthers were stupid. I know I just can't wrap my brain around some of the stuff they believe. But I really am impressed with their intellect and research. And some of the stuff they believe is hard to argue against. I learned a long time ago not to argue with them.

I think ending the war is more worthwhile of my time and a far more reasonable cause. So I have stayed away from the 9/11 issue. But I know better than to call truthers kooks.

25. Yes. They are people who I previously thought intelligent.
And their "arguments" are the reason why I believe they're stupid. In order to believe them, you have to turn off your noise filters and engage in tortuous abuses of logic. I have never been "stumped" by one, nor have I found myself having to agree with them on anything of import. My truther friends learned a long time ago not to argue with me about it.

You may be impressed with their research. I was, before I decided to begin researching it independently. I realized quickly that their "research" was similar to pseudoscience--it was more designed to prove a point than to find an answer. Their arguments relied heavily on flaws in human cognition. Selection and confirmation biases are not evidence of intelligence; rather, they are failures of intelligence. Conspiracy theorists are often very dedicated. They are also, by their very nature, incapable of complete thought. And in that sense, they are stupid.

18. I was reading Adam Kokesh's blog, the IVAW guy you have
posted about lots in the past, whom I admire, and it seems HE is a hardcore supporter of Ron Paul. he claimed on his blog if he weren't so involved with IVAW he would be campaigning for Ron Paul. I was sad to read this. :(

19. For many in the anti-war movement, Ron Paul is their choice
and more and more are vets.

I know, I don't get it either. Kucinich was a speaker at the Vets for Peace convention. I was there and saw how well he was received by those vets. That was 3 months ago. I have no idea what has happened since then or why they no longer support Kucinich.

Who knows. I'm a vet and I would NEVER support Paul. anyways, I won't hold it against Mr. Kokesh. I admire his tenacity. :hi:

That explains it. :)

And I agree. I still admire Adam.

23. There will probably be quite a few folks tailgating at 3:30
and the visibility would be pretty bad after the sun goes down 5:30ish.

Nevertheless, the Ron Paul obsession is pretty scary.

Did you see the billboard they had downtown?

27. Nah. I'm not downtown much.
But I've seen a fair share of yardsigns and bumperstickers. I've even seen Paulistas at the Sunday afternoon Plaza war protest.

There was a yardsign illegally placed on public property at 59th and Brookside a while back, but somebody took it down before I had the chance to tape a piece of paper with a big "U" over the "ON" in "Ron".

28. I am at The Plaza almost every Sunday
You should stop and say hi next time you are in the neighborhood. We go across the street for $2 appetizers and drinks after our protest.

Yes there are some Ron Paul supporters who come once in awhile. But they aren't as dedicated as the rest of us. We are mostly Kucinich supporters. And a few DUers :)
