America's Image : Home of the Cheat, Land of the Liar
Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 03:30 PM by LeftHander
From corporations, to politicians, religious leaders, government officials, celebrities to our athletes professional and amateur and to the people that officiate them, America has shown our true colors and they are shades of yellow. The cowardly yellow of a cheating liar.

Cheats like Ken Lay, Jeffery Skilling, George W. Bush, Marion Jones and Barry Bonds. Add on slime balls like Ted Haggard, Richard Roberts and family we have created a nation whose image is tarnished across nearly all disciplines.

The bigger the money, the bigger the lies and the deeper we fall into the depths of moral ineptitude.

As the likes of men like Limbaugh and O'Rielly tout "moral and family values" at risk from the "gay agenda" they easily overlook the real decline in our nation that comes from the failure of "honesty". We have created a culture of deceit for personal gain. From resumes to military records, to tax forms and records to downloading music illegally, we have decayed across the board.

This moral decay is the real issue. Those that lack character to live life open and honestly will be willing participants in the persecution of those that do. It is the "What's in it for me?" attitude that has driven our nation's decline. "Turn the other cheek" means not to accept the barbs of inequality but to look away while holding out a palm for a little "grease". Our entire system of governance is based on you scratch my back I will scratch yours. Policy is bought and sold in Washington and forced on the public as examples of a free society, a democracy in action. How wrong could we be. It is rotten. The liars are leading the cheats and the blind public follows as long as cable TV and tee-shirts are cheap.

So here we are. In total moral collapse. "In God We Trust" is even tarnished as it beams from the back of a dollar cascading into worthlessness, reminding us that we can't trust our government, we can't trust our banks, we can't trust our sports heroes and we can't trust our minister.

Tell us where the real damage is coming from? It certainly is not from the gay couple down the street or the men and women kissing and hugging each other in the privacy of their bedrooms. The damage comes from the liars and cheats that set the example to our children that this is how it is done. This is how people are successful. This how clever people get ahead, by cheating and lying. They believe the only thing wrong is that they weren't clever enough to keep from being caught.

How beautiful is America now?

6. I like America and I think it's very beautiful.
I like the gay couple down the street, (who happen to be my sister and sister-in-law), and I like the other people on my street, too. I like the people I meet at the store and at school. I like my professors. I like the people I served in the military with - back in the day. I like my parents, my kids, my grandparents and my friends. I've liked most of my bosses, although some were ****s, so were some of my co-workers. I like my house and my yard and my pets. I'm really not too crazy about the practices of some in corporate America and I'm definitely not liking a lot of the stuff my government is pulling, but I'm not willing to give my country over to these folks by claiming they are all there is to it. I am an American and so are all the other people I just listed. We have our faults like every other human being on the planet, but I think most of us are pretty cool people - just like most every other human being on the planet.

I base my trust in people based on their nature, not their job title. As we all know, just because somebody can grow up to be President of the United States, doesn't automatically make him a great guy. ;-)

10. That's it in a nutshell, alright.
The government makes it impossible to survive as a family without two incomes, leading to decreased parental supervision, improper supervision, increased child poverty, family violence, abdication of responsibility, deadbeat dads, etc., yet the MSM will tell you it is actually the gay couple down the street who are ruining the family...
What a country (and mine is no better)!

12. The moral decay has occurred since the beginning-think Native Americans and Slavery.
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 05:07 AM by TheGoldenRule
It is when this country corrects those wrongs as in abolishing slavery that this country becomes Beautiful & Whole.

That's why NOT impeaching * & Cheney

and NOT stop the rampant corruption in Washington D.C.

and NOT stopping the corrupt media

and NOT stopping the voting fraud

and NOT stopping the stranglehold corporate america has on each and everyone one of us and the planet itself

IS & WILL BE THE DEATH NELL for this country.

It is almost too late to save the United States of America.

20. You have so eloquently articulated the essence of real 'puke values to a tee: what's mostly wrong
with Amurika, including ludicrous drug laws and ludicrous sentencing guidelines for non-violent offenses, burgeoning poverty, a teetering economy, a faltering dollar, a lack of access to medical care for tens of millions, evisceration of the Bill of Right, pre-emptive wars, and all the rest stemming from your list are but final fulfillment of a long-held far right wet dream. I too feel it is almost too late to save the United State of America.

19. Trouble is ...
this has ALWAYS been America. Even back to before 1776. We are a nation of greedy, self-adoring bastards who were fortunate enough to have natural resources to feed an industrial machine at the right time. Fuck, we still owned slaves in 1865. We shot redmen after that. We didn't let women vote until 1920. We have become pathetic? No, we have always been as such. And we are ever more ignorant, ever more undeserving.

23. Remember the Whole Earth Catalog
Yes, lying, cheating, stealing, killing. This is all we hear and see in the "news" - it sells.
I begin to imagine what if good ideas began to sell. What if good deeds began to be recognized more proportionally than the lying, cheating, stealing, killing?
I remember a time when good ideas were noticed and promoted. Before computer games where the only objective is killing. What happened to movies with a story to tell other than just the same old terra plot, killing, killing, killing. I know it doesn't sell to the population.
Just wishful thinking on this Thanksgiving weekend.

25. Greed and grace are mutually exclusive
those interested in the bottom line, maximizing profit, will never be involved with the grace of love towards others. Can't happen. Oil and water so to speak. Unfortunately for us those once bitten with the lust of greed and self-aggrandizement rarely give it up and seem in the vast majority.

26. Yes, it's the truth... I've been very troubled to read about how rampant cheating
is in colleges these days, and not only are the students usually unrepentant about it, but even their PARENTS get angry when their kids are chastised... but of course, that explains where they got these 'morals', doesn't it? Sadly, I think only a small percentage of us are really honest.

27. How very true. My father was scrupulously honest. We could have had a "better life
(bigger house, nicer cars/clothes, etc)" if he hadn't been, but he was grounded in the principles of hard work and honesty that allowed him and his 7 siblings to attend college--while growing up as the children of tenant farmers.

He's gone now and my son will never have that influence beyond what I can offer.

It's the leadersip, America.

True words there.. Better to be honest, and decent then to have all the "great stuff" others have.. And have all this debts who coming creeping up an destroy both family and life..

Home we have just One (1) TV shannel to 1992-93 when it came down to two channels on the TV box.. Now I am grown up, have 50 channel, but 49 of them are full of crap, and I still look at the One channel I was looking at when I was a kid.. ;)

But, that was maybee a wrong turn from what we was talking of here.. Better to be honest and have time to your family, then to have so bussy a life that you cant learn the important stuff to the next generation.. To be nice, decent and honest in your deelings with the world.. Even that it may mean you never be a rich man/woman or have all the "stuff" you want all the time..

And the same thing are important for the goverment also.. If you want a Honest man in the White House, you must se to it to come to reality.. Dont allways listen to the man who SAY hi is honest, but are a thief, a badman, who lie, sheat and all criminal thing.. To mr Bush was "sworen" into Office you have a lot of collorfull presidents, many was stupid many was pretty good, and some werry few was bad.. But even that was not what Mr Bush was.. He is maybee on the record the worst president United States of America have had the last 231 year it have existed.. I can't in egenlish really say what I really feel for this thief, thug, bandit and murderer.. I doubt it is in any writen language the word I really want to say about this man and what he stand for.. So evil a Leader have United States never had.. Even Nixton in his bad days was a better President..

America was once a leader, once a honest broker, once a country we all can se up to, and get adwises when disagreement was brewing in the world.. Today US is like a gigant boxer, he can hit you, and kill you if you want. But if you just stepping around the boxer, you maybee be lucky and get in a punch to hit the boxer right down on his knees.. And then maybee you even manage to finnish him off... Is that USA want to stand for, a boxer who are big, ugly and dangrous.. But not more dangrous that some cave-living group of peopole can get down on its knees, and destroy from the inside?:..

US have som really SOULCHERCHING to do, when the next president ar sworen into office in 2008. US have some Soul chearhing to do when the next Administration are ready to work, and try to fix what the current administration have really doon to United States.. The repotation of USA are really in the cellar for the most part..

But if you work hard, be honest and decent you can get the repotation, and the suport you really want.. WE nee a decent honest country. And for the most part USA is that.. But your current administration have not been honest, have not be decent.. the Current Administration have been the opposite of everything your amazing, great country once stand for.. And the fall from the great have been big... But I hope United States wil come back, to be a honest, decent country where the rest of the world can come to, and be friends... real friends not this "if you dont I wil bomb you back to the stone age" friends.. I bet many country, even old allied fear you today.. As they once lived in respect, and love for your country..

It wil take som time, and a lot of work, but I hope that USA once can come back, and be that it once was...

In he meantime, we can allways lisen to old Louis Armstrong, and dream back to a time when the States was the "country of milk and honey" and there everyone was capable of living a better life, then their fathers was capable of doing... And the hard honest and decent work was the norm, not this what US is today...
