Police: Parents Leave Child In Car While They Shop Overnight(36 degrees)
HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- A Franklin County couple has been charged after leaving a young child in a car while they shopped.

Police said 20-year-old Laura Havens and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Casey Shields, left Havens' 2-year-old boy in a locked car while they shopped at the Prime Outlets in Hagerstown, Md.

The car was not running and police said the toddler was crying when they found him.

Investigators found the boy around 2:45 a.m. Friday. Police said there was no heat in the car and estimated it to be about 36 degrees at the time.

Jason Litten from the Washington County Sheriff's office said, "The child was found just wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans and no shoes, soaking wet. It was quite cold in the vehicle. He was shivering and quite scared."

1. Poor kid.
Having to start life with those two strikes against him: his parents.

3. How messed up
I mean, why did they both have to shop together? Why couldn't one stay with the child while the other did the x-mas shopping?

4. Because....
The person you're fucking indiscriminately is ALWAYS more important than the person CREATED by your indiscriminate fucking. :grr:

And why on earth was the poor kid soaking wet?

6. I read that earlier. Mom showed no remorse, said the kid was asleep and she
didn't want to wake him up. :spank:

Boyfriend was arrested for marijuana possession also.

7. i just dont understand
why any court in the land would even CONSIDER returning the child to the custody of the parents - EVER.

I guess cheap chinese imported lead paint covered CRAP is more important than a child you created.

14. Because removing children from their parents is very traumatic for the child, and foster care is
hardly a panacea. While many foster parents are committed and caring, everyone knows some some are in it for the income. Some foster parents are abusive. Some children have died in foster care. And however hard it may seem to believe, even in most cases like this, the parent loves the child, and can learn appropriate care.

The whole "take away the child" begs the whole question, which is: is the nuclear family structure inherently an unstable and inadequate structure to protect and care for children. I maintain it is, but don't expect agreement.

8. That just makes me want to hug and hold him and get him warm.
That poor little thing was halfway to hypothermia. Can you imagine how scary it was for him to wake up all alone in the dark like that when last he'd known Mom had been there? *shudder* Just freakin' awful. He needs a better mommy.

9. No excuse for this.
Both parents deserve a severe beating. Whats wrong with people like this? I was so concerned about my kids when they were young i could hardly stand to take my eye off them. Most other parents i have known were similar.

10. It almost justifies caning.
A nice focused delivery of pain. I'm not saying it's right but this case sure seems to make it look appropriate.

11. Just hose them down and lock them in a car, in freezing temps, for several hours.
Think they'd get it, then?

15. 2 20 year olds with a 2 year old. I wonder,
if they don't want him, why don't they give him to someone who does?
