Disabled veterans jeered at swimming pool
Injured soldiers who lost their limbs fighting for their country have been driven from a swimming pool training session by jeering members of the public.

The unpleasant scenes broke out at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey when the wounded veterans, who are at Headley Court Military Hospital, had to use the 25-metre public pool because the hydro-pool at the defence rehabilitation centre is not big enough for swimming.

The servicemen were about to begin their weekly swimming therapy in closed-off lanes when they were verbally abused by the swimmers.

One woman in her 30s was said to be infuriated by the lane closures saying the soldiers did not deserve to be there when she had paid.

Charles Murrin, 79, a Navy veteran who saw the incident, said: "The woman said the men do not deserve to be in there and that she pays to come in the pool and they don't. I spoke to the instructor in the changing room afterwards and he was livid."

8. There were some guys who threw tomatoes at my cousins
who came back to their homes in Glasgow from Basra.

The ones who were arrested were UK Anarchists and they did it to the 3 other vet houses in the neighborhood.

It takes all kinds.

My cousins are rad libs, they are well recieved in their local meetings.

and it damn well can't get any worse than I do.

These WOUNDED men did not start this. OUR thief-in-chief did.

They are already paying greatly for their service to have these nappy assed bitches hounding them. I just can't put the words together as to what I think of these women.

On Edit: I didn't mean YOU you, SS -- I was referring to the collective "you" that would do such a thing.

But you are right, we don't know, and it's unproductive to assume.

27. But she supported the military, and favored a very robust force
that was adventurous and aggressive. Remember Northern Ireland? And the Falklands?

The UK military worked quite hard under her term. They got pay raises and plussed-up equipment, too.

2. "It was also reported that others complained
that limbless servicemen were scaring children at the centre."

Another example of 'protecting' our kids to the point that they become phobic about anything other than bodily 'perfection'...however the media defines that at any specific time.

6. If they'd show these injured soldiers on TV and let the spoilt
brats and their parents face reality, these morons could not pretend that dead and seriously injured soldiers aren't a part of this madness called invasions and occupations. A big fuck you to those morons.

One woman was so incensed that the troops were using the pool at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey that she told them they did not deserve to be there.

She became increasingly abusive, screaming that it was wrong for staff to rope off a lane exclusively for the injured personnel from the nearby Headley Court rehabilitation centre.

The swimmer, thought to be in her 30s, is understood to have said: "I pay to come here and swim – you lot don't."

of the Republic party. Smug, self-satisfied, and caring nothing for anybody but herself and those she cares about. She's a typical Republic porker, whose chins rival those of Lee Raymond of Exxon. Apparently, paying the price of losing a body part doesn't rival whatever those bitches pay to swim. Disgusting.

42. Truly vile and looks like a pattern of behavior
by some of the people who live in that area.
Looks like sheer prejudice and hate with a classist bent.

I noticed this while reading the article:

It is not the first time that Headley Court neighbours have been accused of poor behaviour.
There was uproar earlier this year after residents objected to planning permission to convert a home into a six-suite hostel for injured soldiers' families to stay in. The local council later approved the building work.

So I poked around a bit and found this earlier article about people there being against using a home to allow wounded service members' families stay near them:

http://www.surreycomet.co.uk/news/features/display.var.1654464.0.objections_to_service_family_home_hides_history_of_help.php

The plans brought protests from those living near the seven-bedroom house in upmarket Grays Lane, Ashtead.

Residents complained it would lower the value of their homes, increase traffic noise and ruin the tranquil area's "community spirit".

~snip~

While some made it clear that the intended residents wouldn't "fit in" in the area which has its share of houses hitting the £2million plus bracket, others had fears for the future; what would happen to the house if permanent change of use is granted and eventually SSAFA sells it on to another organisation?

~snip~
Former Ashtead resident John Dawkins, who now lives in Bookham, said: "I am glad I moved. I would be ashamed to say I lived in Ashtead. It is just sheer snobbery. I was just appalled there is so much bigotry against people who have been wounded serving their country."

"Not fit in" with their "community spirit"? Sounds like a hideous"spirit" to me, being prejudiced against those with less money, those who are disabled and those who have served along with their families.

44. I think you've nailed it
No souls, no light, only hate-filled selfishness toward whoever doesn't "fit in."
As you say, "that ain't no liberal group."
I'm surprised they don't choke on their own bile. But, no, they just spit it out at people who are only trying to do the best they can in a terrible situation.
