US News &WR has the 10 worst presidents...
If you go to the link and go to the point after the list, you can vote for your own 3 worst.

As I type this, bush had 65% for the worst president of all time, far outstripping all other comers...

33. He's at 77% now
I voted only for court-appointed Bush*43 - No other president could even come close to the disaster of this murderous, toxic mal-administration, whose hubrious not only sneers at the constitution, but is being successful in its destruction.

4. Nixon and Carter are getting bum raps in that poll
Edited on Sat Feb-17-07 10:48 AM by Wetzelbill
They definitely have faults, but there are presidents far worse then those two. Reagan is grossly overrated. Definitely one of the worst ever. Wayyy worse than Carter or Nixon.

My votes went to The Chimp, Reagan, and Buchanan. Harding is in there too, if I had a fourth vote I would have went with him. I think Andrew Jackson, total unabashed white supremacist, would round out my top five.

27. In the end, I picked Nixon over Pierce for my third worst
Pierce was a terrible president, but the corruption, the abuse of power, and the anti-democratic sensibility of Nixon plus the fact that there we're real concerns about his mental stability at the end of his term, the understanding to ignore any order from his to launch a nuclear attack. Nixon was just more dangerous.

30. oh Nixon is bad, don't get me wrong
but he's just and obvious choice for people to go after. The RW can admit to his faults, but they couldn't even acknowledge how dangerous someone like Reagan was.

I guess that Watergate (felony), Iran-Contra (treason), and the Iraq War (treason again) make a president unpopular with the American people. Fancy that.

I don't like Reagan much but I was very surprised to see him ahead of Nixon. I would have thought it the other way around. I am guessing that the 9% that voted for Clinton is the freeper vote.

Funny how people came up with a different top three;

What do you think? We want your votes on the worst presidents in American history. You may select up to three.
• George W. Bush
82% of voters
• Ronald Reagan
34% of voters

88. It is particualrly difficult to rate soem of the earlier presidents...
after all, how many Historians are really that familiar w/ Polk, Van Buren and the like. When one has boring subjects, it is difficult to find things about them.

As far as James Madison goes....I have a heck of a lot of respect for his wife Dolley, she was one dedicated lady. Brains and charm added to a sense of dignity, strength and understanding.

95. Any list that leaves Reagan off, but has Carter as an honorable
mention...well to me that means a fundamental misunderstanding of basic economic notions. And lumping in a some Civil War presidents, sloppy.

got pneumonia and set up Tyler to be pres, which really botched things up in the slavery/anti-slavery camps.
