Atlanta SOA Protester Gets 100 Days in Federal Prison

By Jonathan Springston, Senior Staff Writer, Atlanta Progressive News (February 16, 2007)

(APN) ATLANTA – An Atlanta activist received a sentence of 100 days in a federal prison on January 29, 2007, after being arrested and charged with a Class B misdemeanor November 19, 2006, at a protest at the School of the Americas (SOA). The notorious SOA–recently renamed WHINSEC, the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation–is located next to the Fort Benning Military Reservation in Columbus, Georgia.

Mike Vosburg-Casey, a 32-year-old activist with the Open Door Community in Atlanta, was one of 16 protestors from across the US arrested at the annual School of the Americas Watch (SOAW) protest, after “crossing the line” onto the Fort Benning Military Reservation.

“It’s unreasonable for the Judge to be sentencing us to any jail time at all,” Vosburg-Casey told Atlanta Progressive News. “This is constitutionally protected speech we shouldn’t be sentenced to prison time for this.”

1. welcome to the New Amerika
I have never heard of anyone getting that kind of time for "crossing the line". Next we'll get more of the same if we leave our "free speech zone".

Did all who crossed get the same?

Before 2001, hundreds crossed and were ticketed and released. After Bush's attack on America on 9-11, those who crossed the line got time in federal prison. Now only about 20-30 people cross the line each November, and they are prepared to spend 3-6 months in prison.

3. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
"Tin soldiers and Nixon (Bush) coming...Four dead in Ohio..." This is what this situation is leading to.
If the dictator Cheney and his puppet Bush are not impeached now I'm afraid people for peace and peace in general are in danger.

7. I'd consider 100 days in Fed prison a badge of honor if I
were in his position.
