Dammit. I'm not a TRUE AMERICAN. Are you?
I Just got this email.
Even though the sender thinks I qualify, sadly, I'm not a TRUE AMERICAN . :(
Read and see if you are a TRUE AMERICAN...

____________________________________________________________

It is time to change from REDNECK humor to TRUE AMERICAN Humor! Only I don't see it as Humor, but the correct way to LIVE YOUR LIFE ! If you feel the same, pass this on to your True American friends. Ya'll know who ya' are...

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God."

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival."

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You bow your head when someone prays.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never burned an American flag.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

If you got this email from me, it is because I believe that you, like me, have just enough TRUE AMERICAN in you to have the same beliefs as those talked about in this email.

This is Excellent, No Matter what you deem fit to call it. It is our Country, It is our ways of LIFE, and I love it. If you agree please keep it going. Pass it on.

God Bless the U S A !

3. It's self-contradictory
"You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening. " Unless apparently what you believe is that "one nation under god" is offensive, you have anything to say about the 10 commmandments posted in public places, you say winter festival, or otherwise say anything contradictory to this diatribe.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You don't judge people about whether or not they're a true american simply because they are different from you, or disagree with you, because this nation was built on differences, and standing up against authority, not staying in line and being the same as everyone else.

8. Ya, I noticed that too.
I think I'll bring that up next time I see the person that sent it to me. An email will be easily deleted.
And I kinda like to see the look on their faces when they get slapped with common sense.

12. Usually these sorts of things are irrational
They're not normally so easy to show as being self-contradictory though. They want to have their freedom and eat it too. It doesn't work that way. Either we're free and you have to put up with people who think differently from you, or we're not free, and that sure as hell ain't America.

6. Well, I get a red, white, and blue star for this one:
You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

I'm not afraid to say that whoever compiled the list is most certainly not a true American, is ignorant of the history of this country, and, in all likelihood, is a complete asshole.

7. Most conservatives would fail the one about
treating Viet Nam vets with respect. Otherwise when the repubs were in power they would have made sure that the Viet Nam vets were treated with dignity and honor and given decent housing and medical care.

10. Well, I'm sure the Freepers would see it differently
But I guess I must be a "TRUE AMERICAN", even by their ridiculous standards, because I don't have any particular problem with any of the following...

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival." (Festivus, holidays, call it whatever you want)

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You bow your head when someone prays. (Might even pray with them, depends on the context)

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have. (Um, say Freeps, do you remember the words "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (NOT)"??)

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never burned an American flag. (Actually I have. My old Boy scout manual said it was the proper way to "retire" a worn out old flag.)

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same. (Well.... I respect SOME elders, anyway)

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend.
(and have, on more than one occasion)

11. I'm not American at all; but I find it offensive that anyone should imply...
that true citizenship of one's country is somehow linked to faith in God or religion. That is against all the principles of democracy.

The UK sings "God save the Queen" and has never officially established separation of church and state; but on the whole religion is not linked to citizenship. Alastair Campbell famously said (of the government) "We don't do God"; and though Campbell is a prat, I think this attitude reflected in this statement is much healthier than that in the e-mail.

15. Funny one
You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never burned an American flag.

Them boys don't know that the proper disposal of an American flag IS TO BURN IT!

:-)

Not that I'd expect them to know this. These folks fly flags that are well past the time they should be PROPERLY disposed off during flag day.

18. I know what I believe and I'm not afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.
For instance, I'm not afraid to say that the Ten Commandments should not be posted on public land, even though I know that the government is listening, and bushco would like to send me to Gitmo for saying so.

Likewise, I'm not afraid to point out bigotry and stupidity, even if someone likely to be offended is listening.

Also, I would be glad to give my last dollar to a friend, which is why I don't vote for politicians just because they say they'll lower my taxes.

Sounds like the author of this might be a liberal!

24. .
You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God." But you think that "liberty and justice for all" stuff is kinda creepy.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places, nor otherwise have any qualms about forcing your religious beliefs on others.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival." Even if NOBODY actually says "Winter Festival".

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You bow your head when someone prays, because you know how much those who pray want to be observed praying, as Jesus taught, unless they are not of the one TRUE AMERICAN religion.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem and have absolutely no idea what the words are.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have, always throwing them a few pennies when you see them panhandling.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You've never burned an American flag. You probably don't even own one.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening, as loudly and obnoxiously as you can, being careful not to violate the other TRUE AMERICAN rules.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same when you visit them in the nursing home.

You might be a TRUE AMERICAN if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend and keep the fives, tens and twenties.

God bless the U S A and condemn all those other countries to eternal hellfire! U S A! U S A! U S A!

26. The email is remarkably stupid and is targeted for incredibly stupid people.
Half of the criteria are rightwing flashpoint issues, and the other half are simply matters of unselfish behavior.

Tracing the origins of this email should be fairly trivial -- just look for the drag marks of knuckles in the dirt.

Fucking brilliant!!

United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 — The Flag

paragraph 8, section k: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

Holy crapoli!
