Sudanese Scholarships for Young Women
Blue Nile Dairy Co. names CAPO scholarship winners
Wed, 28 Nov 2007 12:05 AM - Dubai Time

Sudan will gain a new rural advisor and a doctor thanks to the Blue Nile Dairy Company, which has just announced the winners of its two CAPO scholarships for young women. Fatima Adam Wahinab (17) has won a scholarship to train as a doctor at the Ahfad University for Women; while Abeer Jumaa Jilda (18) will study under the Rural Extension Education and Development programme (REED). The CAPO scholarships were created to mark the 10th anniversary of the Blue Nile Dairy Company and cover all of the costs of living and study for the scholarship winners for the full period of their studies. In return the winners have agreed to use their university training to provide services for their local community for the same length of time as their studies. Becoming a field advisor under the REED programme was Abeer’s choice because it is a qualification that is valued and respected by Sudanese society.

Blue Nile Dairy Company began as a small dairy farm that has since been transformed into a state-of-the-art milking unit based around a herd of high-producing Friesian cows. The milk is processed at a modern factory at West Soba, 15 kilometres south of Khartoum. Blue Nile Dairy Company began operations on May 7, 1997, and has steadily grown its production facilities to produce a range of products under the trusted CAPO brand name that include pasteurised milk, plain and fruit yoghurt, drinking yoghurt, mish and whipping cream. In May 2000 Blue Nile Dairy Company became the first company in the Sudan to achieve ISO 9000 quality certification. In May 2003, the certificate was updated to ISO 9001:2000 and Blue Nile is still the only dairy company in Sudan with this certification.
