My email to Rep. Jim Marshall (D-GA) re: his vote for escalation
Congressman Marshall,

You disappoint me. It was much to my shame and amazement to find that my representative was one of only two House Democrats who voted in support of President Bush's irresponsible escalation of the Iraq (and soon to be Iran) War. I know that you have been consistently hawkish regarding the war, but at some point you must allow reality to sink in. We are in an unwinnable conflict for which success hasn't even been defined. But for some reason you endorse the wreckless McCain doctrine of throwing our fine military men and women into the jaws of the insatiable beast that is Iraq. When do we ALL come around to the glaringly obvious fact that the whole outing has been a disater?

Even Oliver North, a dirty right-wing huckster with whom I have NEVER agreed on ANY topic, is shouting from the treetops that the troops themselves do not believe an escalation will improve the situation. With such high-profile commanders as General Pace in disagreement with the White House on very basic facts, to whom are you and President Bush truly listening? Perhaps the president's well-connected relatives and cohorts who serve on the boards of numerous war-for-hire corporations (see Uncle "Bucky" Bush and ESSI: http://www.reuters.com/article/governmentFilingsNews/idUSN1619032320070216)? War is certainly good business if you don't mind the blood of our honorable and courageous troops being one of the inputs. I can only speculate as to how much graft and corruption has really taken place, or what impact that may have had on the overall mission. But there is one thing I know for certain; it all must stop NOW.

I voted for you last year because I knew that Republicans of all stripes were taking our nation straight down the tubes with harmful policies both domestic and foreign. I expect much better of my Democratic representation, however conservative it may be. I expect representation that possesses the integrity and maturity to admit when a particular stance on a world-shaping issue is no longer the responsible path. I hope and expect that when there is a binding resolution -- and there WILL be a binding resolution -- that you will own up to your mistake with a vote in support of our troops and against the ongoing bloodbath.

Sincerely,

1. He was nearly defeated in his re-election bid this year
Sadly, his vote was political, but he lives in a district that got REDDER in 2006, bucking the rest of the country.

3. I lived in Mac Collins' district several years ago...

...was DEFINITELY not impressed with him, but that's to be expected from a dirty old Rethuglican. I knew Jim Marshall was conservative when I voted for him, but there was no way in hell I was going to let Mac get another shot at representing me.

On edit: Oops, this was supposed to be a response to reply #1. BTW, I think the winds of change are blowing in Georgia -- we went redder in 2002, but I blame that on Diebold. I know lifelong Republicans who work at Robins AFB (VERY red area) who have been expressing outright disgust for Bush's failed Iraq policy for more than a year. Don't believe the hype when Diebold tells you YOUR area supports Bush's failed attempt at empire-building.

5. It is fairly evident the 2002 election in which Max Cleland was defeated
was diebolded. It was found that machines had been tampered with. However, Georgia just like my state Kentucky has a lot of making up to do. We have to work harder to get the dems back in power.

6. Good content, but you might consider a little editing and
proof reading, f'rinstance-"wreckless" versus "reckless." It generally adds to credibility.
