Stats from Tavis Smiley commentary on Tom Joyner - African Americans and HIV/AIDS

For women, 67% of new cases are African American

For men, 43% of new cases are African American

For teenagers, 70% of new cases are African American

African Americans account for 40% of total AIDS deaths.

And, big surprise, African Americans with AIDS do not live as long as whites with the disease.

For reference, blacks are approximately 12% of the population. These statistics are alarming to say the least, and as Tom Joyner said, these are the reported cases.
