11. Wait a minute!
That's just white gravy! Hell that's the traditional way to serve chicken fried steak, although I prefer sausage gravy over it (use the hot sausage). Being such a staple of the blue-plate special, it's hard to find a more American dinner.

6. It actually looks rather unimaginative.
Does their chef not watch The Food Network?

9. With all due respect, the Clintons would have served the same kind of fare.
And the Carters. And the Kennedys. It IS the White House, after all. Not some office Christmas party.

12. The chief pastry chef has been there since 1979...
In 1979, First Lady Rosalynn Carter hired Chef Mesnier and he became the sole pastry chef, which allowed him to mold and shape the pastry kitchen into his own.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/chef/

And the previous chief chef (until 2005), Walter Sheib, served both Clinton and Bush.

The food's a perk of the position, folks. The problem is what they stick in their pals pockets and down our throats, not down their own.

10. This year's theme is “Holiday in the National Parks”
http://citystreets.wordpress.com/

Uh-oh, I guess they'll be escalating the war on the parks in '08.

And from another blog that detailed this years yummy offerings:
"Don't invite Denny Hastert to a buffet."

14. It sounds really good, although a little heavy on the desserts.
Yummy and pretty, unlike the couple hosting the party. My mom made a mean coconut cake; wish I had the recipe.

Log Cabin Cake(Chocolate Dolly Sin Cake, Chocolate Buttercream Frosting)

Dolly Sin cake is Devil's Food...probably afraid the evangelicals will be offended by the word Devil in the White House.

19. Dick Cheney may have attended too many of these - hence the heart problems
Most of this food looks pretty rich. But if they make the garlic aioli like they do in the south of France, then it's worth the cholesterol problem.
