Latest corrupt Republican excuse: "My boyfriend did it!"
Former JoCo state representative has outstanding ethics fine

KilpatrickKilpatrick TOPEKA | A former Johnson County lawmaker who last year was fined $45,000 by state ethics officials hasn’t paid a dime of it.

Last December, former Kansas state Rep. Patricia Kilpatrick was assessed the highest fine in the history of the Kansas Ethics Commission for a variety of campaign finance violations, including using campaign cash for personal expenses and submitting faked bank statements to investigators.

But efforts to collect on the fine may be thwarted now that Kilpatrick has declared bankruptcy. State ethics officials conceded that Kilpatrick may never have to pay if a judge agrees to discharge the debt.

Kilpatrick, 38, who served two years as a Republican representative from Overland Park, didn’t run for re-election and left the Legislature earlier this year. She lives in the Kansas City area and said she worked in public relations and was considering law school. She maintains her innocence and said a former boyfriend who worked for her campaign drained her campaign funds.

1. She has no shame
This law student should not be allowed to be a lawyer or ever hold public office again. "Change of face law" or her resignation is not acceptable.

2. Can Larry Craig use that excuse?
At least Kilpatrick is now out of office, and hopefully has torpedoed her future political prospects.
