GOP Race Shifts: Rudy Down 5% in 3 days, Huckabee now only 5% behind Rudy in Second 22%-17%
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 11:24 AM by Dems Will Win
Big shift in the Rasmussen National Poll. No doubt this is Bootygate hitting der Fuhrer Rudolph pretty hard in this national poll. It looks like Huckabee is getting the benefit and NOT Romney. Romneys always lose when they run for President...

Now 22% to 17%. It was 27%-14% just 3 days ago, from 13 ahead to 5 ahead for Rudy.

Many still don't know who Huckabee is, so he has a long ways to go upwards.

Giuliani 22%
Huckabee 17%
Thompson 14%
McCain 14%
Romney 11%

This poll will clearly help the Huckster in IA and NH. Watch for him to soar there! He'll become the anti-Giuliani just as the Midwesterners hear about Bootygate a week or so from now...

Here is Huckabee playing a mean bass guitar in "Born To be Wild": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o1cNQ92W5w

Welcome to the '08 race you rocker you!

1. It's going to be interesting.
Eventually the pubs are going to hear about how Huckabee liked raising all those taxes in Arkansas. It might come down to Huchabee against a fiscal conservative tax hater.

2. Conservative Christians will like him initially
because he is a minister and is consistent with his conservative values in his personal life. HOWEVER, he's a big proponent of a flat tax--but while governor of Arkansas, he did NOTHING to get rid of state income tax and personal property tax, and actually INCREASED taxes by making more businesses (mainly service businesses) have to charge sales tax. If Huckabee gets the nod, let your moderate and conservative acquaintances realize this. Huckabee is likely to just add a federal sales tax and keep the IRS alone, if what he did in Arkansas is any indication.

10. The two gentlemen in the photograph... who are they supporting for
president in 2008?

I need to know so I don't vote for that person.

In case you don't know, Red State Update is a YouTube mainstay of Republican Good-Ol'-Boy Satire--a bit like Colbert, only more lowbrow.

Their videos are archived on Salon.com, for Chrissake!

5. I'm not sure this is good.
I think Huckabee may be their strongest general election candidate. Much stronger than Rudy.

6. He and Rudy are working in concert--the NY Sun had a story about it, about
how they only compliment each other and never trade barbs. The goal is to take down Mitt and Thompson. Huck will probably be awarded the VP slot. If he gets uppity and actually tries to take down Rudy, expect some backlash.

7. I definitely think that Huckabee would be VP for most of them
because of his evangelical support.

9. I bet the conversation at Rudy's campaign HQ today is a bit strained.
Evidently he banked on the 9/11 hero theme and figured that would be enough.

His polling has been falling since summer and it's really taking a sharp downward turn here recently.

I love the smell of collapsing megalomania in the morning.

12. Huckabee is very, very, dangerous.
He's a batshit crazy fundy, but he also has made economically progressive sounds on occasion. If he gets the nomination we might have trouble holding on to the votes of socially conservative economic populists, especially if Hillary is our nominee.
