Kucinich: "It's your government, take it back"
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, the Democratic Party's long-shot, grassroots Presidential
candidate, today connected very emotionally and personally with a crowd of more than 5,000 everyday citizens whose struggles against poverty, discrimination, oppression, and disenfranchisement mirror his own life's experience.

Interrupted by repeated, prolonged, and enthusiastic applause and cheers, Kucinich had an easy time distinguishing himself from the other candidates on the bread-and-butter issues that the huge gathering of community and political leaders and Democratic Party activists announced as their priorities for today's Heartland Presidential Forum. Those included: "health care for everybody," the "right to a living wage," workers' rights, an end to corporate control of government, and the adoption of progressive immigration reforms that "don't use immigrants as scapegoats" for failed federal policies.

The "connection" between Kucinich and the audience, a large percentage of whom will be participating in the January 3rd Iowa Presidential caucuses, stemmed in large part from his own political struggles over the years against the entrenched political and corporate interests that forum leaders accused of undermining citizen-led democracy

(snip)

The surest route to ending the monied-control of politics and government is public financing of elections; and, he said, he would push for a Constitutional amendment to ensure that federal campaigns were publicly, rather than privately financed.

Kucinich stands heads and shoulders above the other candidates. He is years ahead of their rhetoric. He is simply the best for America.

8. Well Dennis with all due respect, many of us would like to do just that... But...
Your party that was elected to the head of the pack is what is letting us all down right now, however I do understand that you are doing your bit and I certainly hope the other morons will stand up to the plate before it is to late.

12. He's the only candidate that passes my two issue litmus test.

A commitment to pulling out of Iraq, plus a call for impeachment. His judgment on those two issues make him light years ahead of the other candidates.

14. Electable!
If everyone were to listen to what Dennis says and consider his record of voting for we the underdogs, if everyone voted their ideals, it would be Kucinich by a landslide. This horse race ain't over yet!

15. Kooch should not be unique
...the fact that he is is deeply troubling. He's got my vote, and I hope that he gets enough more to make the corporate whores take notice: A Democrat, standing up for Democratic values, is a good thing.

22. Problem - it's not "our" government anymore
this farce in DC is a wholly owned subsidiary of big business.

It does not even closely resemble our Constitutional government.

So what are we supposed to take back?

23. Hey, let's all line up to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom.
Seriously, Thomas Jefferson, when he arrived in Washington, D.C., before he was to move into the President's House did not set himself up in lavish surroundings. Instead, he stayed at what is the equivalent today of a hostel, or boarding house. No pretension. Recognition that he was servant of The People. This sense of service is what Dennis Kucinich truly understands and embodies.

Is there anyone else running of whom you can say the same? Kucinich is truly of that stature. Does that frighten people? Is he getting in the way of those who feel they were anointed to be the "leader of the free world"?

26. Voting "lesser of evils" plays into the hands of the powers in control. Make them represent us or
don't vote for them. Under any circumstances. They rely on your vote knowing you will vote for them instead of a republican.

27. Tell your local and state party organizations that you are not settling
for the status quo any more. And that you will risk losing the general if necessary to get a candidate that represents us. Congress members need to be changed out. Understand the risk and insist on new people that haven't been tainted by the beltway club. Make it clear that you will not support an incumbent just to win the general. They must represent our values.
