Where Does Huckabee Stand on the Issues?
I'm just curious. I really know nothing about the guy. I remember seeing for the first time on REAL TIME with Bill Maher and thats it. Where does he stand on the issues?

Gay rights/Marriage
Abortion
Gun Laws
War in Iraq
The Environment

These are the ones that are important to me.Is ther a link? His site believe it or not doesn;t say much (which suprises me)

2. VERY anti-gay. Used to make "Adam and Steve" jokes and compared
gay marriage to marrying your children or your dog. Believes teenagers should carry concealed weapons to reduce gang violence, thinks Americans should arm themselves against the government (said this on Tweety's show). Very pro-Iraq war, thinks our troops should stay until they can leave "with honor", whatever the fuck that means. Thinks Iraq is more important than WW2. Thinks Jesus wants us to protect the environment NOW, but used to call environmentalists "wacky" and "fruits and nuts"--flippy-flop.

4. My Mom
who hates Bush and the GOP who voted for Kerry in 2004 likes him.I don't know much about him but what little I do know I hate. Gay rights is big with me and I've heard enough.War in Iraq and Environment and healthcare is another. He doesn;'t score high with me there either.

9. See, you're thinking with your head
You need to think with your gut...

Your mom likes him because he comes across as a nice guy, unlike everyone else in the Republican race. He doesn't read to people like a politician, he reads like the nice baptist guy next door who you trust with your house key when you're away on vacation so he can feed your cats and water your lawns, and you come back and his wife has left some food for you in the fridge with a nice note so that you don't have to worry about what your'e going to eat when you get back from the airport...

For too many people his actual positions won't matter, because they'll assume since he seems like a nice guy, that his ideas couldn't possibly be all that harmfull...Which of course is incorrect.

11. Lots of people 'like' him
I've seen him on several shows and he comes across as witty, fairly bright and a decent sort of guy. The thing is, his public policy stances are totally wingnut - particularly on the social issues.

He worries me because he seems so 'likable' and in this cult of personality we seem to be so intent on cultivating in our politicians, he comes out much more appealing than McCain, Romney or the other mean-spirited nasties on the GOP.

THere were plenty of people who voted for Bush over Gore because Bush was perceived as more likable. Scary, but our politics seem to have turned into a version of junior high class election politics.

5. Huckabee I think is the most dangerous candidate
I think they'd all be disastrous for our country at this point, but as far as electability I think Huckabee is the most dangerous. Why?

Giuliani comes across as a prick, Romney comes across as slick, McCain is a dick, etc...rhymes with...

Huckabee though I think comes across to most people as an earnestly nice guy, with the right amount and type of governmental experience. The fact that people in this country vote for the guy they'd rather have a drink with, than his positions, I think he's a serious problem. The only reason his numbers aren't higher, and weren't off the bat, is that most people didn't know him and he wasn't connected, but that's changing.

It wouldn't shock me if the numbers keep moving towards him, and then we're in real trouble.

6. I get the feeling he is another self-righteous Santorum type.
Thanks for providing the link so I can explore him more. The brief stuff I've heard about him is disgustingly narrowminded.

10. Nah he's much more refined than Santorum
Santorum was just an outright prick who pushed his anti-american views right into your face.

Huckabee is far more dangerous. He's more passive with his beliefs in that he's not aggressively mashing them in your face. He has far better PR, which makes him much more dangerous than Santorum could ever have dreamed to be.

13. Where doesn't he stand?
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 11:11 AM by bryant69
I am doing candidate reviews at my website right now. Here's the one for Huckabee --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com/search/label/Huckabee%202008

Huckabee does have a chance of being the Republican candidate. He's good for "values voters" who don't want to vote for a Mormon or a Giuliani. On the other hand, some are unimpressed with his record on cutting taxes and fiscal conservatism - Novak had an article last week on it.
