Um, "Mittens", the US Constitution requires otherwise.

Article VI
All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

10. Seems to me that the only faith that the neocons exhibit are in
military force and corporate profits.

17. Not exactly true
Shrub has turned a secular dictatorship into a theocratic nation, where the mullahs have the real power over the people.

Iraq is about as "democratic" as the old German Democratic Republic (Soviet controlled East Germany).

3. This is going to get interesting.
Watch the acrobatics as the religious right tries to justify Mormonism with Christianity if Mittens gets the Republic nomination.

13. As Someone Who Was Raised Mormon
Although I no longer attend church, I wouldn't have a huge problem with a Mormon as President. The Mormon church doesn't get involved with politics like the fundie Christians do. I was never told who to vote for when I went to that church. I would actually trust a fundie as Preident a lot less. I wouldn't vote for Romney because he's a Republican. His religion has nothing to do with my decision.

14. Get involved in politics? Hell, they completely control them in Utah.
I'm actually shocked by your comment, were you a Mormon in an area where you were not the majority? Utah is the reddest state in the union and it is not because the Church doesn't tell its people how to vote!

My issue with the church is it caves to pressue from fundies. The church actually had a hard time coming out in favor of the vote against gay rights here in Utah. I think the church really didn't want to support it but in the end they did. Had they not? It would not have passed. Historically though, the church has gotten it right. They don't believe the earth was created 6,000 years ago, they are open to evolution and sometimes vote in favor of environmental issues (but rarely). If the church thought it could get one of its own in the WH (and by own I mean Republican as well as Mormon) they would change their views on anything to get there...including the 6,000 year thing and evolution.

15. Ask any gay person whether the Mormons get involved in politics
They are huge financial backers of a lot of anti gay legislation throughout the entire country.

18. Mitty, Mitty, we already had a person of faith leading this nation
And look where it got us. He was even convinced God himself placed him in the office. You don't get much more faithful than that.

Oh to dream of a president that leads with reason instead of faith. Sigh. Faith inspires confidence and thats why they call it a con game. Its all about peddling confidence.
