Top state officials seek to block Indian Point license renewal

White Plains – Governor Eliot Spitzer, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano today announced they have filed papers seeking to deny the relicensing of the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan.

The men filed papers with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission identifying “dangerous deficiencies” including those related to terrorism, earthquakes, evacuation plans and the surrounding population density.

1. Good news there . . . This is the nuclear plant that the hijackers allegedly flew over ---
and a source for much concern in the heavily populated area ---
We're in NJ --- and it would effect us.

NOTHING insured by government or backed by government should be in private hands ---

and no nuclear power plant is insurable by private industry --- they won't do it.

2. The water tower in VT (entergy owned) fell down recently
Not a peep until someone posted a pic on the web. Entergy needs to improve its oversight.

Indian Point is too close to NYC. We are not safe.:kick:

3. I remember that --- Have they done a lot of repair work on it ????
Corporations are simply a reincarnation of Royalty ---
granted they had to behave while New Deal regulations were still in effect ---
but the restraints are off now and they'd be the last ones to trust with
a profit-making nuclear industry!!!

7. It's a beautiful area up there --- and they have get-togethers and stuff ---
but I've never gotten up there ---
When I go to Boston to see my daughter, there's just never enough time to stop by there ---
I'd like to though ---

8. It is about an hour north on the train from NYC
Sometimes Pete Seeger plays his banjo down by the park (during fest and fairs and stuff).

It is too cool!
