Hague museum pulls offensive Muslim art
Hague museum pulls offensive Muslim art

The city museum of The Hague has decided not to include in an exhibition a work of art that may offend Muslims, it was reported on Monday.

The picture, made by Iranian artist Sooreh Hera, is entitled Adam and Ewald and shows two gay men wearing masks of the Muslim prophet Mohammed and his son-in-law Ali.

It is part of a photoseries the Gemeentemuseum has included in the 7up exhibition due to open on December 15.

The Gemeentemuseum's director Wim van Krimpen told reporters the museum is interested in purchasing Hera's complete series, which he called "high quality works of art".

However, he added he will not exhibit Adam and Ewald in the next few years because "certain people in our society might perceive it as offensive".

3. It is the fear of religious reprisal that determined this decision
That is not a good thing, and a good example of a case for jettisoning religion.

4. Well, I dunno about that - people would use politics/philosophy etc
religion is just one thing where people disagree and use their ideals to influence others.

In the US, even without religion, we would have the health nazis trying to tell us how to live and making laws around that :)

The words are different, but the sentiment's the same.

16. Mohammed flew to heaven on a winged horse...Christ rose from the dead...
Was born of a virgin...and because of this we should live a certain way and impose it on others...

24. Science - we can prove science. Can't prove religion
Therefore, religion is a false claim.

26. What's with the logical fallacies?
From a high school drop-outs point of view, they are argumentative and unfounded in relevance to the issue at hand.

They represent the final flailing death grasp for legitimacy of a failed point of view, regardless of how they are used.

Donald Rumsfeld had his known knowns, and his known unknowns, and we all winced at this exercise in fallacies.

But what the hell, if it feels good do it.

You mean only a high school drop out, or even a high school drop out?

28. Take your pick,
I never studied Aristotle, so the issue will quickly pass beyond a simple person's grasp of argument, but it does not matter either way.

I don't buy the cloud dweller thing, and that is what I thought this was in reference to, if not, my apologies.

I will refer back and double check that after I deal with cooking dinner.

and here, now, in the US we have people wanting to tell others how to live.

Kind of like saying John Lennon was murdered for his views on Chairman Mao.

19. If I made a poster that said Bush Sucks
and asked a museum to put it up(assuming it was museum quality work), they might decline because they wouldn't want to offend bush supporters. Should we "jettison" political ideology as well, because it causes collective delusion?
