I can't pledge allegiance
I can't pledge allegiance to the flag of the divided states of america, or to the dictatorship for which it stands, divided nation, with a shredded constitution, ignoring God, no liberty or justice at all.

1. I've never felt comfortable pledging allegiance to a flag anyway....
My allegiance is to the people of United States ... and the world.

2. The flag to me does not represent what is, but would should be
as does the pledge - to uphold these truths we hold self evident.

I pledge allegiance every time I post here against the idiots in power now :)

4. Hey, you said a lot of opposite stuff.
I would have recommended "Untied States of America", but nice touch on the no caps thing.

5. The word "allegiance" is derived from the word "liege"
Liege meaning a feudal lord.

Kind of ironic when you consider the origin of this country.

6. That's mayn't.
What if we started pledging allegiance to the Constitution?

Would all Republicans have to be deported or incarcerated? (Pick one.)

8. Memory time!
Last year I attended the 50th reunion of my high school's class of 56. At one point the class member who had spearheaded this whole event asked us to say the Pledge of Allegiance and when we got to the words "Under God", shout it out! I looked around and questioned fellow Class o'56ers in earshot, does anyone recall when those words were added in 1954? When, by the way, we were silly sophomores and had little awareness of the McCarthy Era/Hearings and all the dreck being left in their wake? My classmates within earshot gave me a blank look and as we all recited the pledge and those words "Under God" resounded throughout our old gymnasium, I shook my head in wonder...

I took the pledge, as we usta every day in 1940s and 50s classrooms, but I did not shout out the words Under God. I was grateful to get back home from that "event", sign onto DU and regain my sanity. Since then, I have not said the pledge once, sadly, because the flag no longer represents the country I used to proudly call my own. We'll get it back, though? Yes, fellow DUers, we'll get it back!!

End of rant.
