I am confused by the entire Craig issue
First of all I certainly don't want to come off the wrong way . I am not gay as if this really matters however I felt it important to point this out so if I get bashed or taken wrong then I deserve it .

I have to wonder why it took these 8 men so long to come out to relate their experiences with Craig .

The other thing that comes to mind is even though all these politicians being found or rather suspected of being gay and I understand it's because of the hypocrisy that this has become an issue , but I have to ask , how does this issue affect gays in general since it seems to be the topic of so much discussion and debate .

My wifes brother was gay and so were many of our friends , however I can't ask any of them since they have all died from AIDS related illness and I don't have any close friends left that are open minded about this subject .

So I thought I would toss this out in the internet ether hoping for some insight .

The other issue is what about Vitter , how is what he has done really differ , what just because he is not gay and yet he gets a standing applause for his moral standing . I thought that was rather sick in the true sense of the word . He is another case of hypocrisy .

1. I can't read minds
but there are several valid reasons for it to take so long. One is that many people didn't know who he was. He was an obscure Senator from an obscure state and apparently didn't do much stuff in Idaho. Second, one of the men, the escort who Haggard also used, didn't come forward until after Craig reversed his resignation. Finally, there is still the stigma attacked to such behavior which might have prevented some of the guys he merely hit on from coming forward.

2. I'm not sure what your question is.
Why are we hearing about Craig's 8 lovers now?

I presume it's because a newspaper investigated it, and just published a story about them.

It's not like we've known who these 8 men were this whole time, or that they've been denying it.

"how does this issue affect gays in general since it seems to be the topic of so much discussion and debate."

I suppose since Craig's a noted homophobic congressmen, and it's destroyed his career, that's who it's affected gays in general.

3. My take...
was that Craig's hiding behind "I'm not gay" statements perpetuated the myth that being gay is somehow wrong. He didn't want to be seen admitting to it, even though he plead guilty in trying to engage in it.

What I noticed more was that a lot of people were *justifying* Craig's actions because he's gay. That because gays don't have the same opportunities to meet as straights do, that made cruising male toilets for sex acceptable.

4. so many 'issues' seem to have...
a paradoxical nature...or you have to be careful what you wish for. All this sneering and jeering is not conducive for homophobes reaching enlightenment. It seems to me to perpetuate the 'other-ness' of being gay. I often think Congress does this type of shit on purpose..creating an outrage so they can legislate in a manner that goes in the opposite direction of what is good for society. Like internet porn..create the outrage and limit the access. I am always suspicious of those people who find themselves in this guys' position. How easy could it be for someone of import to quash this kind of stuff? Especially when it appears on Tweets.
