Sorry to have to post this as a Dem...BUT: There's SOMETHING WRONG with Harry Reid!
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 08:41 PM by KoKo01
I'm sorry to have to post this as a Democrat...but there's SOMETHING WRONG with Harry Reid..for those who have watched him...you KNOW!

Here's what I heard listening to his Press Conference on CSPAN after Bush's Tirade against Dems for not fully funding his "War Funding, FISA Immunity"...and the rest. Maybe some of you think I'm a Reid "Hater" for posting this...but I've watched Reid for years...and this was just incredible incompetence for him to come out their representing the Democratic Party. :-(

After I watched the whole Presser with Reid...this is what I posted as the summation of his clueless rantings.

---------------------------------------

Oh Dear God....Reid: "Please Mr. President don't beat us with that Stick no more!

We've given you everything you wanted...you are the most stubborn man I've ever had to deal with...we Democrats have given you so much...please don't beat us with that stick ...no mo..."

Paraphrase.... and btw..."Tellecoms will get a Deal...but we don't know what it is yet...maybe the government can pick up the costs of immunity."

I can barely listen to him....dreadful. He was supposed to talk for 40 Minutes according to C-Span and he cut it short. What is wrong with Reid? If you watched it you must wonder what is wrong with him...

He's just so whimpy, it makes my hair stand on end!

Is it because of his upbringing and that he's a Mormon?

He just doesn't seem to fight back... EVER!!!! :grr:

He's one of the problems that needs to go!

7. There's something wrong. He whispered into the mike on CSpan I had to keep turning up my remote.
He would do pauses where he looked off into space as if trying to compose his thoughts and then he would try to say some negative thing about Bush as if he was using his "pause" as controlled anger where he just couldn't SPIT IT OUT about why he "might" be angry with Bush.

He does this the few pressers he gives...he seems to bumble and stumble and use "controlled anger" to substitute for real RAGE at BUSH.

There's something wrong with him. Today, he was so bad...I wondered if he'd had a stroke over the break and that was why he was so slow and halting in his speech. But, if that had happened surely the Press would have been Crawling all Over It!

So...what is wrong with Reid. Over and over there were some DU'ers who kept saying to TRUST REID..."HE's a BOXER...Knows when to pull his punches and when to strike." Like Reid was some kind of Mohammed Ali...doing a "Rope a Dope." I'm not a "Sports Watcher" so I took their word that Reid was doing something with a Boxing Routine that I just was clueless about.

Well... it doesn't seem that Reid's Boxing Ability goes into speech making ...yet he's the Leader of the Senate who can't vocalize his views? :eyes: It's just not credible. And maybe Boxers just aren't good spokespersons like all the other Sports Figures who are always Yapping everywhere on the Cables.

I watched both Bush (blech) and Reid today. Bush, while coming across as a whining slurring bully, at least was able to be the tiniest bit forceful. He actually was a better speaker today than Reid - one hell of a note!

15. Why do you hate the Dems?

Somehow we need to get ORGANIZED, and figure out how to verbalize this all very clearly, and reach out NOW to all those non-voters who have said, for so many years, that all politicians are crooked, etc.

They had a good point, and instead of villifying them, we need to reach out and connect.

We could do this, if we wanted to.

Or, we can sit back and point in blame every where else.

It's all so pathetic.

18. I AM a Dem
And as such, I want a Senate Majority Leader who is the tiniest bit competent when it comes to articulating Democratic positions - because if he can't, we're in a whole world of trouble against a goddamn fascist like Bush. I don't think that's a lot to ask. We have some excellent Democratic Senators who are articulate, clear, and crisp in their presentations. Why can't we want to do better than Reid?

60. The "failure" is because we are all so isolated. That "rugged individualism" will be our downfall.
If the citizenry would actually come together, get out their pitchforks and say "BASTA!", things would come to an end.

As it is, the frog will continue to cook slowly, until it's too late, and we all fall down.

It's US.

but didn't have the courage to say it. Thank you. It's not something we Dems want to talk about...but if Reid is the Opposition to Bush...the odds are stacked for Bush.

I was so deranged after watching the both of them...I've been ranting about it here all afternoon.

We can't survive as a Party when we have something like what we saw today. If all Dems saw that juxtapostion of Bush vs. Reid....we'd be in the streets storming CONGRESS! It had me in tears ...what I saw Reid doing. I was ASHAMED... actually I was more EMBARRASSED!!!!!! :-(

17. Reid doesn't know shit about how to fight. I think he has cruised along
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 09:26 PM by BornagainDUer
because he shares the first name and similar looks of Harry Truman. He should quit and get behind somebody who will fight the fascist bastards. As the original Harry Truman said:

'If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen'."

He used a version slightly nearer the one most often used nowadays, in 1949, after becoming president, when warning his staff not to concern themselves over criticism about their appointments:

"I'll stand by but if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Truman was well-known as a plain-speaker, in a way that politicians in our more media-sensitive age rarely are. This was celebrated by Merle Miller, who published a set of interviews with him - called Plain Speaking: An Oral Biography of Harry S. Truman, in 1974. It includes this unambiguous gem, which would hardly get past the presidential spin-machine these days:

"I didn't fire him because he was a dumb son of a bitch, although he was, but that's not against the law for generals. If it was, half to three quarters of them would be in jail."

23. He Has Had A Small Stroke
IRC, it was right after the '04 election (please don't make me Google...:spank:)

Personally, I like Reid...a nice man, but not the fighter needed in the brawl. While he outwitted Frist (so did many small animals), he is outgunned early and often by the white house and its spin machine. He's attempting to reason with caged tigers. He's bringing a pea shooter to a gun fight. His "instinct" to compromise with a brick wall is what fruststrates most...as when he does he shows extreme weakness and then gets jumped on by the right wing spin machine and the corporate media. That's when we all lose.

I'd prefer to see my Senior Senator...Richard Durbin...as a future Majority Leader

Cheers..

31. Thanks for that medical news....problem is he was apologizing for his dealings with Bush...
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 09:57 PM by KoKo01
saying he was the "most stubborn uncompromising man I've known..." Reid then referred to some person he had served with in Nevada politics as an example. He rambled on about this man from his past that the reporters nor the CSpan viewers would have been able to make sense of . Sort of like when our dotty Grandfather would go on about some character he knew as a boy ...but couldn't finish the connection. We all loved our dotty Grandpa's and sometimes their wisdom makes a story come to life about their pasts that made a connection to our own small lives. But Reid didn't make that connection...he sounded really "out of it" because no one knew what he was talking about.

Anyway...thanks for the medical stuff and your view.

40. Yes, but whose costs?
The cost of investigating the potential crimes by a future Justice Department? Or the Telecom's legal costs for defense?

And since there's a built-in immunity, how can there be defense costs?

Either way, it's like squabbling over the bar bill on the Titanic as it's going down.

37. Well...he's pretty frustrated with him...but he whines that Bush is just "so stubborn."
I guess he's learned to live with him...but if you listen to his speech on C-Span (link is upthread in post) you will see that he still is so disappointed that Bush's "stubborness" just doesn't allow him or his fellow Repugs to work with the Dems in Congress. This is what Reid says in utter disappointment.

So...tell me the disconnect from what Reid and we out here who have followed Bush have been thinking since '01 and what Reid is complaining about to reporters in 2007. Seems to me that Reid was "stubborn himself" that he doesn't "get" what Bush is about. And what about all the "Phone, Faxes, emails" that we Dems have been sending him all these years? All those DU Action Alerts and the efforts of every Progressive Democratic Group out here to wake up Reid and Pelosi to what is going on.

They just ignore us...or they plug their ears? That's whats so sad about what Reid was saying today to reporters. It's as if he's just realized Bush is "STUBBORN?" :eyes:

It makes me physically sick. Combined with reading Klein's "Shock Doctrine" in which progressive movements in country after country capitulate to the corporate fascists (Poland, South Africa, South America etc) has hurled me into a fetal position. Our dems are doing the same--vote after irrational vote.

48. this party leadership has no socially redeemable value whatsoever.

I declare it to be pornography.

they actually declare in public that they have given Bush all he has asked for? This is something to be proud of?

that admission is like admitting to a very serious crime.
book him, dano.

49. Watched him tonight on KO "weighing in" after Bush's "scolding"... rather pitiful
I get the sense he was never gonna light fires in a leadership role of the Senate, however, I wanted to jump into the tv set and pump him up with some testosterone. Yeah, he was weak. He's been weak. I can't believe what's happening, as they are, save for a few, PATHETIC.

This has nothing to do with bashing. It has everything to do with being a concerned citizen of this country.

50. I agree 100 % ...he is the most spineless
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 11:47 PM by OwnedByFerrets
worthless spokesman we could ever have representing us.

On edit and after thinking more about this.....he sounds like someone who has been threatened by his superiors. I have always said that the Criminals have listened in on the conversations of every representative of congress. They know every secret and every skeleton in every closet. IF there is any sign of a spine from the democrats, HELL will be loosed upon that person.

AND, if the representative has NO skeletons, there is always the threat of physical harm to his or her family.

How else can you explain this crap?

51. Harry & Nancy should resign. Their jobs should be given to
Sen. Feingold for the Senate & Kucinich for the House.

53. Do we want our pitbulls, the only effective ones, giving up vital committee posts?
Is this really the best time?

We need to stuff both houses of Congress with enough Dems to allow for some real choices for the committees and to allow them to wield real power. The DLC is calling the shots for far too many current members of Congress to the point that we can't tell the parties apart anymore.

54. I have been thinking the same thing for a while now.
He seems like he is out of it all of the time.
Kinda like the lights are on, but nobody's home.

He did have some health issue - was it last year?

62. I thought there was something wrong with him too.
He seemed totally unprepared and sounded drifty. I remember after watching him thinking 'Jeez Harry, next time put a few thoughts on paper before you hold a press conference.'

65. I noticed that too! It was scary.
I'm glad someone said something.

I was stunned by his demeanor. Not only were his words halting and somewhat incoherent, he looked like all the energy had been drawn out of him. I thought maybe he was ill with a bad flu, or he was dealing with a family crisis. If that was the case, he should have let his deputies speak -- they are deputies for a reason!

66. I've been sick of Reid for a long
time now. I can't stand the sound of his whiny little voice. All I can figure is that he is being bribed or threatened with death. These Dems are so easily BULLIED.
