Ben Stein just gave a left wing editorial on CBS Sunday morning news.
The right wing comedian and former nixon speech writer just changed his stripes. He spoke about the stock market and how the only reason it is doing well is because of the growing divide between the very rich and the rest of us. He said sooner or later the stock market is gonna crash and we will be in a huge mess.

1. Doesn't necessarily he has changed his stripes
If he is an old school pug, as opposed to an Ayn Rand worshipping neo con, he may not approve of shrubya's fiscal irresponsibility. I am sure Mr Stein saw nothing wrong with the stock market during the Clinton years.

3. Stein will never change his stripes.
He continues to speak out against Hollywood as being totally left-wing and intolerant of the right, yet he continues to be a part of Hollywood. He lives there.

He may have a point of view we agree with on a rare occasion, but he's a political rightwinger to his core.

10. Amazing with Republics regarding Hollywood
Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 11:37 AM by NewJeffCT
They rail against it, but the vast majority of politicians from Hollywood are Republics - Reagan, Arnold, Sonny Bono, Fred Thompson, Fred Grandy.

For Democrats, we only have Cooter (Ben Jones) that I can think of in recent memory.

6. He kept saying that it was a good time for the rich....
but not for those deployed in Iraq.

I interpreted it as an anti-war piece.

8. That's not called being left wing. That's called stating the obvious.
Now, if Mr. Stein were to suggest the remedy for the problem lay in nationalizing industries, I might agree that he is now left wing.

9. Most of the time I tune him out, but he has a background in economics
as did his father. Maybe this is the one area where he has "clear eyes" for the poor guys/gals.

He's still an ass.

13. Stock market
Sure the stock market will crash sooner or later. Everything will crash sooner or later. Unless you put a date on it you are simply stating the obvious. However, it is probably overdue, and it would only take another terror attack in the USA to set it off. That would also set off a lot of other things. Think of the Patriot Act on steroids.

14. Sadly, if you really look at Nixon, on policy issues he was very progressive...
before Watergate, he was about to announce a massive program to reform drug abusers in our prisons systems, and don't forget he's the one who started the EPA.

15. Actually congress pushed for the EPA and Nixon went along for the ride.
