Sacramento Atheist Tries Again to Change Pledge of Allegiance
Sacramento Atheist Tries Again to Change Pledge of Allegiance

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A Sacramento atheist will take his arguments to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance and U.S. currency to a federal appeals court in San Francisco Tuesday.

Michael Newdow first sued the Elk Grove Unified School District in 2000 for forcing public school children to recite the pledge, saying it was unconstitutional.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Newdow's favor in 2002. But two years later, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Newdow lacked standing to sue because he didn't have custody of his elementary school daughter on whose behalf he filed the complaint.

Newdow filed a second suit on behalf of three unidentified parents and their children.

Arguments in that case will be heard by a three-judge panel of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today.

3. He's trying to change them BACK!!
Back when "E Puribus Unum" was on the money.

Back before we stuck "Under God" in the pledge, mostly in the same spirit that "Freedom Fries" hit the Congressional Lunchroom.. It was never really more than a little "so's yer ol man" to the "godless commies". .

4. I also would like to see the words return to their original version.
The rethugs like to have matters/way of life return to the "good old days". Well, in the good old days no religious wingnuts messed with the Pledge of Allegiance. Hmmm...
