4. Hastings has the brains but the 111th Congress might squawk.

Of course Congresses tend to squawk all the time, no matter the subject.

I like the combo in Hart of the international expertise plus the divinity degree, and I'm not especially religious.

5. True, and he's been talking

about the real causes of - and threats from - terrorism since before it was cool. A President Biden might choose him. :) A President Kucinich might choose Hastings. :) Or the pigs that would fly out of my butt.

6. The CIA was lobotomized when HLS was created.

It has virtually no power now. And a vast amount of it's experienced agents left when it was downgraded.

What needs to be done is either eliminate HLS or get rid of morons* cronies doing nothing more than collecting paychecks there and organize it into a fully functional dept.

Or the best choice: get rid of HLS completely.

Besides, after reading "Legacy of ashes" I'm of the belief now that the CIA either needs a new clear cut mission or otherwise be dismantled.
