Did Obama believe the intelligence on Iran?
We'll never know because he didn't vote. Nothing about it on his record. All we get is what he says now. Pretty slick in my book! OK, Hillary triangulates but this guy is just slick enough to NOT VOTE and have a record when he thinks it may come back to bite him. Hillary should just not show up for votes on any controversial issues, then she too could not be called out. This no vote of his really makes me think he's a little to slick for me. To each their own poison. At this point I trust Edwards the most of the three.

7. You may want to read up on the "present" votes he case in Illinois
They were appropriate and this attack is completely without merit. http://progressivegovernment.blogspot.com/2007/12/from-anne-and-women-for-obama.html

luxury to not vote against the bad bills so he could run for president later with a better record for not voting against a bad bill.. sorry but i don't get it.. i know about poisoned bills.. anything the ReThugs touch is poisoned.. that is a given. i guess i dont know how to play chess

33. He was not in the senate so therefore couldn't vote
for or against the war in Iraq. Thats just his mouth talking about what he would have SUPPOSEDLY would have voted.

25. OK, Jon Stewart. I never
saw you taking something this serious and joking about it. I'm giving you a pass because maybe I didn't make myself clear enough in the original op. You above all people I admire and think of as the voice of reason. I am just asking you to take a look at how Obama maneuvers.

32. I wish he
had voted, also. Not voting is better than voting in support of the administration, but worse than voting against the administration. Senator Obama has said it was a mistake to miss that vote, and I think everyone would agree with that.

However, it is the administration that had full access to the range of intelligence on Iran. Thus, I think that the focus should be placed entirely on the administration. Those in both the House and Senate have the opportunity to place that focus squarely on the administration, by not only demanding, but actually conducting serious investigations and holding those who have abused the power of their offices fully responsible.

People can have honest debates about what people in congress may have (or should have) known before the NIE became public. But we all know that the administration was misleading the congress and the nation -- again -- on the "threat" of the mushroom cloud. Hence, there is no excuse for any of the democrats in either the House or Senate to take immediate action on this.

6. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much. I'd rather know, even if, or maybe especially if, the vote
is one with which I disagree.

Sen Obama is smart, charismatic and resonates with me as someone who exhibits compassion and understanding. This particular instance strikes a wrong chord, for a couple of reasons. It was an important vote for which his constituents expect him to represent them and it would have been a clear indication of his intent regarding foreign policy and Iran.

For him to deliberately avoid it is concerning. MKJ

17. It bothers me more, now that I know it is a pattern
He does not vote for the controversial votes, so he does not have a position on record. He can then later say anything he wants.

"I supported it but did not vote for it for other reasons."
"I initially supported it, but decided not to vote because I changed my mind."
"I never supported it."

And this specific bill, he claims was so fundamentally important--it was a call to WAR WITH IRAN. And he gave no speeches on it, did not warn the public that this was coming.

It is a troubling pattern.

18. Seems that no one wants to see.
There is just something wrong in the way he distances himself from the hard votes that would be on the record.
It seems so contrived it bothers me more than Hillary's finger in the wind voting. Maybe people should see the record of his votes opposing anything to do with Bush's warmongering. We can certainly see Hillary's warts right there on the official vote counts and that is why many don't like her. He needed to put his vote where his mouth is. I trust him less than Hillary and that's saying a lot! Reminds me of Eddie Haskel.

9. I have been posting this over and over
he skips all the hard votes. Go back to the congressional voting record and check. Then he starts his holier than thou crap against Hillary if she does. If this man won't take a stand on a vote, what in the hell would he do on foreign or domestic policy.

15. Did I miss his vote on the Iranian revolutionary..
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 09:23 AM by Little Star
Guard being a terrorist org.? The one where Hillary is taking a beating? I wasn't talking about votes he cast before he got into the US senate and you all know it. Where is his record on Bush trying to provoke war with Iran?
He seems way to smart to stick his toe in that pie. At least give Hillary a point for the courage to vote so that we can make judgments based on her record. On this Iranian Revolutionary Guard Vote all we have hi his monday morning quarterback word. Just sayin' Put your convictions on the official record Obama! Your words after the fact mean NOTHING anyone can talk and he gets the prize for smooth and polished.

For the rest, all the candidates have missed votes, including Edwards when he was in the Senate and running. This is silly talk and YOU KNOW IT.

21. Obama has stated repeatedly THEN how he would have voted on that.
THEN as in "the day of the vote".

The only slickness is in Edwards, who has been the most hawkish of all these candidates when he was in the Senate, and is now trying to have us believe he changed.

29. So you choose to TRUST Edwards who can't vote, but not Obama?
Did you trust Obama when he said in 2002 that he was against the Iraq war?

At that time Edwards not only voted on it, but he sold it for Bush.

You can have it both ways; unless you agreed that Edwards vote was the right one on Iraq.

could not vote on the Iraq war but not Clinton and Edwards. Your post makes no sense to me. Obama sure likes to say he was against that when he couldn't even vote. Six of one half a dozen of another.
