31. Nah, I've known kids from public schools were that ignorant.
They may have gone to public schools, but they had such strong preconceived notions from Sunday School, church, and parents that they couldn't let those go and actually listen to their teachers.

3. Well, how about this?
I once saw some clown preacher man on TV arguing that Jesus made the pyramids! I kid you not. He was going on and on about how marvelous they were and how only Jesus could accomplished such a feat. Then he looked right into the camera and said "Now, you're not going to tell me that CAVEMEN made the pyramids, are you?!"

14. Well maybe not
But the Egyptians had the same Sun God mythology from which the Jesus story traces its origins. Horus is Jesus with a big bird head. Maybe that's what he meant, but somehow I doubt it.

4. I have an acquaintance who was astonished when I spoke of the translation
of the Bible. That there may've been translation errors of certain words and phrases.

Yes, this person thought it was all written in English originally and that no words had ever been changed from the original text.

This was a 60 year old so she'd been believing this her whole life (and she's an avid Bush supporter, BTW).

8. Don't you understand??
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 11:36 AM by kestrel91316
The bible is a complete and unerring history of everything that ever happened or existed on earth through the time of the Apostles. If it's not in the bible, it didn't happen or doesn't exist.

All other "knowledge" and "history" is of the devil and meant to lead us astray.

Now do you understand? This woman is probably a Dominionist. Look for more of them to start coming out of the woodwork.

20. Either totally thick or very badly taught...
Children often get very confused about the order of events of history and prehistory - "Did Queen Victoria have any pet dinosaurs?" - but you'd have thought an adult would have got it straight. For one thing, doesn't the term 'B.C.' mean anything to her?

22. Well, many evangelical Christians do believe that Jesus predates the universe
"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Gospel of John. The "Word" here, of course, is Jesus.

I'm not defending the woman who claims Jesus predates the Greeks. It's just that I think Whoopie and the rest are arguing historical facts...the Greeks obviously predated Jesus and Christianity. However, the Christian woman is arguing--albeit unconsciously--a theology (but not very well). She also seems ignorant about when Christians were historically thrown to the lions and by whom.

29. I don't think that she's arguing that Jesus as God predates the ancient Greeks
I think she's claiming that Jesus, the possibly historical person predated the ancient Greeks. As someone said, this is a mistake that a seven year old would make, not an adult....

33. Honestly, I think she mixed up the Romans and the Greeks.
And then thought the Romans were new when Jesus started His ministry. The Christmas story talks about the need for a census, but she probably doesn't get that it was a Roman census--and not by the first Roman emperor, either.

28. sigh. This is a popular show, right?
They were all talking at once, but that message came through: nothing predated the Christians.

Okay. So God created the earth ... I dunno ... a few thousand years ago. Even if you buy into that, does this person think that Adam and Eve were Christians? How the hell is that possible?

damn.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Usually interpreted as a reference to the eternal Christ. But somehow I don't think that's what the idiot on The View was referring to.
