Democrats Call for Inquiry in Destruction of Tapes by C.I.A.

i love the last line here 'At least one Republican lawmaker has also expressed dismay over the destruction of the tapes'.

to be a republican is to be lawless

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 — Democratic lawmakers reacted with surprise and anger today to the disclosure that the Central Intelligence Agency in 2005 destroyed at least two videotapes documenting the interrogation of two Qaeda operatives in the agency’s custody.

Representative Jane Harman of California, who was the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee in early 2003, said she cautioned C.I.A. officials then not to destroy any videotapes pertaining to interrogation practices.

“To my knowledge, the Intelligence Committee was never informed that any videotapes had been destroyed,” Ms. Harman said. “Surely I was not.”

Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, a persistent critic of the Bush administration’s anti-terrorism policies, was to speak on the Senate floor about the destruction of the interrogation tapes, and its not having been revealed for some two years. At least one Republican lawmaker has also expressed dismay over the destruction of the tapes.

3. I know, I know...that's why I recommended this thread.
It does get a bit disheartening, though. :(

5. just heard a news bleep about this on cnn radio
sigh

durbin wants an investigation, says if they wanted to protect the interrogators like they said they were doing they could have used video technology to blank them out rather than erasing the tapes
