Gore on 'peacepath'

A clearly amused but enthusiastic Nobel Peace Prize winner will literally leave his mark on Norway, on a new Path of Peace in Stavanger.

The path is an ongoing project by human rights foundation Point of Peace, and will incorporate footprints from various peace figures in a route that ends at the Cathedral Square in downtown Stavanger.

Former US vice-president and Nobel Peace laureate Al Gore gladly rolled up his trouser legs and took off his socks in order to have his footprints set in alginate. The form will then be sent to Kristiansand and cast in bronze before being placed near the Stavanger Cathedral.

"Funny and nice, a very good idea. I have never heard of this, but I think it is a very good idea," Gore told newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

Gore was also invited to lead a seminar on the climate and energy in oil city Stavanger next September.

"I very much want to come, and count on making it happen," Gore said.

Point of Peace board chairman Rune Hersvik will travel to Rome next week where he hopes to convince about ten previous prize winners to loan him their feet.

1. It almost seems like he's got all his time available to defeat the climate crisis at the moment
that would certainly not be the case if he was running a candidacy and a subsequant Presidency.

He is making great inroads in doing so already. Why go backwards? And having his feet set in bronze on this path going forward... well, as I stated I think that is fantastic.

4. Gotta love those Norwegians!
Best quality of life for the citizens, progressive leaders - indigenous peoples, parenting/education, environment, and on and on. Only disappointment - their involvement in Iraq. Surprised the heck out of me that they participated.

But, all in all a country and people to learn from.

6.  What? Only one rec?
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 06:54 AM by RestoreGore
Oh yes, because he didn't say "president" in this article and actually stated he would make a point of attending their conference next September. Nothing to twist here.
