Nurses' Ad Takes Cheney To Heart, Sort Of
Advocacy Group Says, Without Government-Sponsored Health Care, V.P. Would Be Dead

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 10, 2007

(CBS) "If he were anyone else, he'd probably be dead by now."

So begins a health care union's newspaper advertisement which ran in Iowa Monday, pointedly referring to Vice President Dick Cheney as a beneficiary of government-sponsored health care unavailable to most other Americans.

The California Nurses Association and the National Nurses Organizing Committee, based in Oakland, hope the ad will bring attention to the issue of health care reform.

The ad depicts a patient, Cheney, whose history and prognosis - "four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, angioplasty, an implanted defibrillator" - might disqualify him when applying for health coverage if he did not happen to be a member of the Executive Branch or Congress.

The procedure recently used to treat Cheney's irregular heartbeat, the ad notes, might not be available to average Americans.

Such an episode, for millions of Americans without access to health care, "might be a death sentence," the ad said.

The ad appeared in the Des Moines Register and in 9 other Iowa papers.

“The point we’re trying to make here is that health care is clearly the most critical domestic issue in this election campaign,” Charles Idelson, the groups' communications director, told the Quad City Times. He hopes Iowa voters will press the presidential candidates on the issue.

2. I cannot believe that no one has made the perfect documentary to show us what we're missing

All it would take is about 8 families.. 4 US and 4 canadian who were willing to lay out their finances

Mom, dad, toddler, grade schooler & high schooler( preferrably one who plays sports)

They would have to make sure that the incomes & social status were equivalent, and the health status, as well..

All they would need to do is to compare REAL household expenses..complete with check stubs and tax forms:

food
health care costs
mortgage payments
auto expenses
savings..

the whole ball of wax..

Our press loves to pooh-pooh Canadian healthcare and how they pay HUGH taxes for it and how long they have to wait..

The fact that my idea has never made it to TV pretty much tells us they are lying..

6. Do you think it might be easier to just
revoke cheney's medical coverage rather than impeach him? Either that or maybe we can get him a new doctor, Dr. Kavorkian(spelling?). I've heard rumor that during the day it may be possible to put a stake through his heart, but we don't know what bunker he's buried in.

7. The AMA has ads up in the DC subway system
It is for something called Voice for the Uninsured.

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/17712.html

It also can be linked from http://www.voicefortheuininsured.org

Their slogan is "Because 1 in 7 is 47 million too many"

I haven't read very much on the site, but I did look at a neat tool that lets you compare the presidential candidates health care proposals.

I just wanted to put this out there if anybody was interested.

13. Another aspect of Cheney's hypocrisy
The linked article says that Cheney wouldn't have gotten this care "if he did not happen to be a member of the Executive Branch...."

Hey, wait a minute -- I thought he wasn't a member of the Executive Branch, according to his own argument to avoid disclosure regulations that would otherwise be applicable. If he wants to maintain his secrecy as if he were a private citizen, I say we should bill him for every dime that his health care cost.
