British McDonald's fines customers for overstaying
From the Guardian:

The question of just how long it should take to eat fast food is being answered by the burger giant McDonald's, which is making customers finish within 45 minutes or face a charge of £125.
Motorists who care to linger over their McMeals for any longer at some drive-throughs are receiving demands from a private company that manages car parks for the burger chain.

1. Wow. What the hell kind of business model is that?
And how do they have the right to fine anybody?

5. It's a business model built around maximizing profits, not customer service.
It's why McDonald's is battling the negative connotation of the "McJob" with a PR blitz to promote the view that a job at McDonald's is mostly not a dead-end job.

6. But how the heck are they able to fine people?
Interesting point you make about the PR blitz about those dead-end jobs. Ironic that the Omaha mall shooter had just been fired from one of those dead-end jobs.

8. I dunno, I guess they put a car-boot on your car and make you pay to get it off.
Or have your car towed out of the parking lot.

2. Well, that's one way to get customers out of your business location.
I thought the whole idea was to get customers into your location.

3. I was going to be cool with it if it was for people who stayed after closing
Once at Arby's these people were still hanging around an hour after closing and we were sitting on the counter, everything clean and ready for the next day already, just watching them and waiting to go home and wondering if we could maybe get two hours of sleep before having to come back.

But yeah - if it's during normal business hours it is pretty silly.

7. ok, read this again: people in drive-thrus are spending 45 minutes
in a parking lot, AFTER they get their food.

It's one thing to stay a long while inside a restaurant, even a fast food joint. But to go to a drive-through, then park in the parking lot of said drive-thru fast-food joint, and take 45 minutes to eat your food? That's a bit much.

10. Parking is a bitch in England, from what I've heard recently
too many people, too many cars in the cities

9. There's a McD's at the local Walmart
The oldsters take up three or four tables and sit with coffee half the day. (Until nap time)
