Burqa-clad suicide bomber attacks check post in Peshawar

Islamabad, Dec 4: A burqa-clad suicide bomber blew herself up near a check post outside an intelligence agency office in northwest Pakistan today, injuring several people.

The bomber detonated the explosives near the check post on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Dawn News channel reported.

Several people were injured in the attack. No group claimed responsibility for the incident.

The attack came as the Army launched a major operation against pro-Taliban militants in the Swat valley of the province.snip

Police said the woman, in her thirties, could be an Afghan national as she was wearing Afghan clothes. Dawn News channel said the woman was accompanied by another burqa-clad person believed to be a male who fled from the site soon after the blast.

At least I think that's what I read. It went from being a Big Deal to being a Medium-Sized Deal as other events occurred.

She went from "female suicide bomber" to "female courier of explosives"--no suicide vest, no ball bearings or other shrapnel to make the blast more deadly. But they admit they could be wrong; it's just that the evidence fuzzily pointed in one direction and not clearly in the other.

I think the first report I read was that it was a man dressed up as a woman. It got squirrely from then on.

Don
