It's almost a recession according to--Martha Stewart.
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 10:32 PM by blondeatlast
Did anyone else see this? I happened to flip on the tube for a few minutes while getting ready this AM as she was opening her show. She was blathering on about having dinner at "wonderful" MY restaurant last night with the CEO of Bank of America.

Then she said something to the effect of "I don't know how you feel about banks, but (blather blather) with Bank of America. And of course, we're almost in a recession." :wtf:

I was dumbstruck. I think she realized how awkward things had gotten and they broke to a commercial. But Martha Stewart said it was almost a recession--I kid not. A forecast of a recession, followed by her showing John Voight how to make a holiday door spray.

What I wouldn't give to have TiVo'd that moment. Did anyone else see it?

2. That was my thought as well; possibly why she became visibly nervous after she said it.
I so wish I had video.

5. Glad she's saying it
The MSM isn't saying much about it. A lot of women watch her show who don't normally read the WSJ or financial pages, yet they will be impacted by a downturn in the economy. Women are often in charge of family finances, so...

Go Martha.

6. I was just waiting for her opinion before I made up my mind.
I wonder if K-Fed thinks we're in a recession. if so, that'll seal the deal.

10. No offense, but your ignorance is showing with that post....

I'm no fan of Stewart but don't you think it's a little bit silly to compare K-Fed, a himbo that got where he is (isn't) by marrying a bimbo, to Stewart, who started, from scratch a publicly traded corporation with yearly revenues in excess of $200 million dollars.

I would give a listen to a person who controls a consumer spending driven multi-media and housewares company.

Actually, I'm aware of her significance, and she knows what she's talking about. I'm aware that she knows about macroeconomic trends. I was just joking around.

I just figure that these people are so well-insulated from the negative ramifications of a recession that it doesn't really matter for them if there really is one. I mean, it matters, but she won't feel the pain like most of us will. For most of us, though, she's stating the obvious. It's good that she's saying something about it, as others have pointed out in this thread, unlike the mainstream media. I find it hard not to approach anything that rich people who won't feel the pain say about the economic iceberg (which has been obvious for YEARS). Of course, we're close to a recession. It's a natural result of reckless policy. Anybody could tell you that the economic policies of the past few years have been reckless (the interest rate cuts, racking up massive trade deficits, depending entirely on debt and consumption to drive the economy). It does not take a person with a background in high finance to

9. I honestly didn't know that. That kind of chills me then--she actually knows
what she's talking about.

The MSM is terrified to use that word--but she did. And she KNOWS from these things.

Wow.
